In 2013, on the DizastaMusic YouTube channel, Miller created the video "Do the Harlem Shake (Original)," which originated from a clip of the video "Filthy Compilation #6 – Smell My Fingers",the video has been viewed 60 million times (as of February 2019). The original clip led to the creation of the Harlem Shake meme, which was directly responsible for the debut of Baauer's "Harlem Shake" song atop the Billboard Hot 100. In addition to the DizastaMusic channel (inactive since 2015), he has operated two other channels: TooDamnFilthy (a secondary channel) and TVFilthyFrank (main channel).

His absurdist YouTube channel, now defunct, consisted of music, rants, ukulele performances, and a bizarre show, with all of the main characters played by Miller including the titular character of Filthy Frank. He also produced absurdist comedy music under the moniker Pink Guy, with his discography spanning two full-length albums and an EP. His second album, Pink Season, debuted at number 70 on Billboard 200.

In late 2017, Miller retired from the YouTube channel to focus on his music career under the name Joji, producing more nuanced and serious music, releasing the EP In Tongues, which peaked at number 58 on the Billboard 200, and his debut studio album BALLADS 1, which reached number 1 on Billboard's top R&B and hip-hop chart in November 2018. With this, Miller became the first Asian artist to do so. Miller's music has been described as a mix between R&B and trip-hop. As of 2022, Joji has released two more studio albums: Nectar on September 25, 2020, and SMITHEREENS on November 4, 2022.

This is so true, this song equates to the time I was having a great weekend with my roommates. We bought drinks, sat on the floor cause we had no couches around a coffee table laughing enjoying each other’s company. The next day we bought shrooms watched videos, laughed hung out with our neighbors, and when the night was done, I went outside to the stairs of my apartments and just looked at the stars in the sky. One of my roommates came out and she asked what I was thinking about and I just told her that I’m ok with what is going on right now. But lowkey I knew I would never experience this amazing feeling ever again with these people I call my family. I miss that time in my life.

Going back and listening to these songs just bring so much nostalgia. It’s like these songs are frozen in time, in an era where filthy frank and Joji coexisted, where all you have to worry about is whether or not the cute girl in your math class is interested in you. I’d even say that the song symbolizes that innocence, maybe even this whole kinda genre. It really is beautiful and strikes a chord that’s hard to define

2016 on the bus to highschool this played on repeat. Two different lives and this song reminded me that I was one person. One at home, addict parents and no money. One at school as a top student and athlete.
I was always both of those people, I was in pain but I was still persevering. I couldn't cry for a period of my life and this song was exactly what I needed to listened to to feel like I was letting it out.
Life is good now, and this is still a good song.

The beat and lyrics is supposed to send you off in a tangents and show the internal struggle of dealing with suicidal thoughts , "Pick up the medicine" is in reference to killing yourself by overdosing to medicine but at the same time a reference to anti-depressants, that you should take them to make you feel better . " Don't be what you want to ", is like saying if you're feeling suicidal and you want to be dead don't be dead because everything gets better , however if you are all upbeat in life and have dreams, give up and don't be what you want to. Then you have the beat where the piano is all melancholy and makes you feel depressed and at times suicidal , yet you got this 90s boom bap beat to make it sound uplifting , therefore it puts you in a revolving door between feeling optimistic and suicidal thoughts. Its pure genius if you ask me.

That's the sad part, to me.. the melody and edit is sad enough, but the fact he went through the trouble to change it up a bit.

You hear this song, and you start to think about the song and what it truly is.. It makes you feel like crying but you can't, so you just stare into space and think about the things you regret or sad things or just feel sad... But after I listened to this after around an hour, doing nothing, I started feeling the slightest feeling of sad happiness, like everything was OK, or something. It's hard to explain, but you just feel and know that it's OK somewhere out there, and that somewhere was right there with you at that moment.

Like I don't want to die bitter and alone man, and I have this shitty (wonderful) ability to let music take me to other worlds, and when I listen to this, it's like a sweet poison. It takes me to this world where I feel so dead and alone and bitter and then when I finally build up the will take my headphones off I come back here and feel a lot happier with the life I have and it's almost empowering. I found this song in 2016. God, I was a sophmore in high school back then. No cares beyond my ELO in csgo and making sure my grades stayed above a D. Things were so good then.

Now here I am. 21 years old in 2021. Smoking the last cig of the pack while i sit in the car I'm to tall to sleep in, not wanting to go back to the broken family in the place that's meant to be home. i listened to this on repeat all the time in high school. the last time i remember listening to it was in 11th grade, waiting outside the school in the heaviest blizzard of the year, freezing cold, couldn't feel my face or my fingers, waiting for my dad to pick me up, but he never did. i had to trudge home with tears turning to ice on my cheeks. i was so suicidal at the time, for some reason being forgotten like that made me want to walk into the woods and curl up in the snow, and let it cover me completely.

I remember the first time I heard this song was listening to joji on SoundCloud and I heard two songs the first one was the original and the second was the extended. After having spent a Friday and Saturday with my family I went to an old love of mines house. We sat down, talked about old times, laughed about recent things that happened to us, the good things and the things that made us cry. I had such a feeling of comfort with her that I never felt with anyone else, it was amazing. When the night came, we went to her bed and watched movies till I just looked at her and she looked at me, and all I could think about was us in that moment. Nothing else mattered. Nothing in the world. Needless to say I slept with her till the next morning I had to leave back to my duty station and while listening to joji’s playlist on SoundCloud this song came on and all I could think about was the night we shared where I looked in her eyes and felt for a moment like I belonged. I miss her and wish I could be with her right now more than ever.

It seems I'm one of the rare ones that loves Filthy Frank and Joji/PinkOmega equally here.
I think Filthy Frank is hilarious and I've been following it since early 2012 but I'm also immensely saddened that the Joji album got cancelled, seriously I think Joji's stuff is on the same tier as Nujabes and if he actually went through with making that album I honestly think it could've been one of the best hip hop albums to ever be produced. (Well, it had the potential to, anyway.) His beats, the flow and tone in his lyrics, some of the imagery he uses in his music videos (mainly referring to the end of Tribute to Ronald, that shit hit my aesthetic way too hard), when it comes to music and chill hop he seems to just be a jack of all trades and master of all. I could listen to his serious beats for hours on end.
I'm really hoping he starts up serious music production again with the PinkOmega alias. I don't want this to end in a "the greatest producer that never was" story.

This is really really great... the way you can hear it as "take your life" or "pick it up" and "do be what you want to" or "don't be what you want to", combined with the way it skips around really reflects to me the struggle between choosing suicide or choosing to taking medicine to try and feel better.

This song summarizes two summers for me, really the background theme to my coming of age.

In 2016 the guy I had a crush on used to play this song a lot whilst we were working on projects at school. It was “a cute video game song” I could see on the computer next to me whilst imagining a bright future.

In 2017 the girl I loved nearly died on a regular from the life she lived though I had paid her debts when she had used the medicine she was supposed to sell. This became the song I could drive to to forget the future that could have been.

Every time I hear this song I feel super sad.
Over a year ago my closest friend cut off all ties with me and I had nothing I wanted to do in the world anymore. Combine this with the stress from school and another toxic relationship that was happening at the time, and I turned to the internet. I was going through some of Joji's old music and I found this remix and I would do nothing but listen to this on repeat and stare at my ceiling. This song really comforted me during this month long period of me feeling like I was worthless to the world.
Every time I hear this song I just feel a pressure on my chest, and the feeling of trust broken.

WE love him. I would like to say we are the genuinely kind part of his fanbase. However, when he posted that video "exposing" himself he got a ton of backlash from his subscribers (the bad ones) and Joji enjoys to keep his private life private. That being said, the "bad ones" try really, really hard to bring his privacy to light. It's awful.

This song will never not make me feel sad, melancholic or nostalgic. It really sounds like Joji transformed the lyrics into his own story with creating. For me this’ll always be the song that transition between Frank and Joji, the lyric ‘don’t be what you want to’ seems like Joji having to continue to play the part of Frank to please his fan base, and the anxiety he is swarmed with because of the fact that he knows he needs to make the decision that makes him happy. The kinda distortion that this song has with the lyrics quickly changing and jumping around is like his brain trying to figure the words to say how he feels but quickly being pushed aside for the fans. I’m so glad he’s doing something he loves and still producing insanely great content, just on a music level full time.
