Here We Go
Jon Brion Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You've gotta hope that there's someone for you
As strange as you are
Who can cope with the things that you do
Without trying too hard

Because you can bend the truth until it's suiting you
These things that you're wrapping all around you
You never know what they will amount to
And your life is just going on without you
It's the end of the things you know, here we go

You've gotta know that there's more to this world
Than what you have seen
Because we all have a limited view
Of what we can be

As we move along with our blinders on
Each one of us feels a little stranded
And you can't explain or understand it
Each one of us on a different planet
And amidst all the to and fro
Someone can say hello, here we go

The feeling that someone really gets you
It's something that no one should object to
It could happen today
So I suggest you skip your habit of laying low
It's the end of the things you know, here we go

Because someone can say, "Hello
You old so and so, here we go"

Overall Meaning

In Jon Brion's song "Here We Go," the lyrics convey themes of loneliness, hope, and the need for human connection. The song tells the story of an individual who is struggling to find the right person who can accept and understand them despite their idiosyncrasies. The first verse suggests that the singer needs someone who can cope with their quirks without trying too hard. They can convince themselves that their behavior is justified until it suits them. The second verse emphasizes the idea that we all have a limited view of ourselves, and it is essential to move forward with open-mindedness and acceptance of others. The singer sensed that everyone is on their unique individual planet, and it is difficult to make human connections.

However, the chorus offers hope that someone might understand us and say hello, breaking the cycle of loneliness. The last line of the song, "You old so and so, here we go," suggests that the singer finally finds that connection. In this song, Jon Brion uses his pensive lyrics and musical style to paint a picture of a person who yearns for an improved future but feels stuck in their present surroundings, unable to break free from their complicated emotions truly.

Overall, the song speaks to the universal need for human connection, the power of hope, and the potential for new beginnings. The story that unfolds through the lyrics highlights the struggles many people face when trying to break free from the past and move forward to a better tomorrow.

@bonnieduff3543

I have never commented on a youtube video before, but my ex-boyfriend put this on a mixtape for me for a birthday once and it always made my cry because he told me I was this person. We mutually broke up a couple months ago and this is the first time I've listened to it since and when I hear it I will always be 18, and falling in love in England, on a sunny day in May. I hope he is living wonderful and that he will find someone for him, strange as he is.

@maxtobinfilms

ah this comment is so sad it hurts to read. Memory is a terrible, beautiful thing. Hope you're doing well.
