It
Jon Brion Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I may be slower than some folks
But I always make my way
I move forward with my hopes
And I sometimes save the day

Where do I begin?
Cause there?s a whirl pool of information
That you?ve got to sort through
To get to where it?s at

It falls flat and it makes you crazy
But I get the feeling
That I get what it?s about
It?s just a feeling
I can?t really spell it out
I get the feeling
That I get what it?s about

>From the bar to the car park
Theories fly about
They fall short for the most part
But I?m not keeping count

And why should I begin?
Cause there?s a whirl pool
Of people who will stop
And they will tell you
The things that you will not
They roll their eyes and they call you crazy

But you get the feeling
That you get what it's about
It?s just a feeling
You can?t really spell it out

You get the feeling
That you get what it?s about

Overall Meaning

The song "It" by Jon Brion is a reflective piece on the idea of understanding and perception. The opening lines reveal a sense of self-assurance and resilience, with the singer noting that although they may not be as quick as others, they still find their way and sometimes even save the day. The following lines suggest that the singer is attempting to navigate through a convoluted and overwhelming array of information to find meaning and understanding. There is a sense of frustration in the lines, "It falls flat and it makes you crazy," suggesting that the process of trying to understand can be maddening at times. However, despite this, there is an underlying sense that the singer has grasped something important, although they cannot quite put their finger on it. This is demonstrated in the repeated line "I get the feeling that I get what it's about," suggesting that although they cannot articulate it, they have a sense of understanding that comes from within.

The second verse of the song shifts focus to the outside world and the various theories and opinions that can be found there. The singer seems to be questioning why they should bother engaging with these ideas, noting that they often fall short and do not provide the depth of understanding that they are seeking. Despite this, the singer acknowledges that there are others who will attempt to impart their knowledge on them, even if they consider that advice to be misguided or incorrect. The repeated line "You get the feeling that you get what it's about" suggests that although there are many competing ideas and opinions, each person ultimately has their own unique sense of understanding that cannot be fully articulated or explained.

Overall, "It" is a song about the nature of perception and understanding. It acknowledges the difficulty of navigating through a world of competing ideas and opinions, but also suggests that each person has their own innate sense of understanding that comes from within.

when you say mac miller i think blue slide park, best day ever but mac has ascended way beyond that. he transcended to something so much more than rap music and his whole body of work has shaped me as a person.
although the idea that i'll never hear what his next album will sound like hurts i know he's happy on the other side and that brings me solace.

love you forever easy mac with the cheesy raps

right

He may not be the "greatest ever" but he's everyone's bestfriend. I may sound crazy, but if the rapper I consider as the "greatest ever" dies, I wouldn't be that affected, but losing Mac? It's different, it's like losing a childhood bestfriend.

i often wonder if thats what was his final self conscious demon...

Mathew Hiscock

I have to be honest, circles is amazing, but I don’t think it’s the type of album that’s supposed to be played live like at show. It feels way to personal for the type of hype shows mac put on but idk

Jake Kulik

@Mathew Hiscock well sounds like you may need to try some mushrooms at a more chill show/set
