In Jon Gomm's song Telepathy, he begs for his love interest to speak up and say what they mean, as he can't read their thoughts. He is desperate to learn telepathy, to be able to connect and understand his partner's thoughts and feelings. However, he can't seem to get a grip on his own thoughts, and they constantly keep him awake at night. His thoughts circle around a cruel moment that occurred between him and his lover, leaving him feeling defeated and giving her the upper hand. Despite his plea for help, she chooses to turn and flee. Even as he tries to lull himself to sleep, the thoughts keep on circling, like a carousel, keeping him awake.
This song is about the frustration of not being able to fully connect with someone. It conveys the need we all have to be understood and the struggles of miscommunication. Gomm's ability to convey the story behind his lyrics is remarkable. He uses a soft guitar accompanied by his soothing voice that creates a calming effect, which is in contrast with the struggles that he expresses through his lyrics.

8ulls3y3 to be fair, manring uses both techniques, sometimes at the same time using the same hand. still jon's use is more melancholic and essentially better for it.

I know most of you were blown away by Jon's unearthly guitar abilities (and so was I), but what keeps me coming back to this clip over & over again for the last 5-6 years is his voice. The list of vocalists that can absolutely destroy me emotionally is quite short:
Thom Yorke, Chris Cornell, Rufus Wainwright, Tom Waits, Susanne Sundfor, Layne Staley, Jeff Buckley...and Jon Gromm. The amount of emotion that Jon conveys in this song is absolutely devastating & mind numbing.
