Secada arrived with his parents in the United States in 1971 at the age of nine. While attending school, his family managed a coffee shop. As a teen, Secada discovered his gift for music. In the culturally diverse city of Miami, Secada was exposed to salsa and merengue. Secada also became interested in R&B and pop music performed by Barry Manilow, Marvin Gaye, Billy Joel, Elton John and Stevie Wonder.

The album went Platinum in the US. One of its singles had a top ten Pop hit If You Go and a Top 30 hit Mental Picture, which was used in the soundtrack for the film "The Specialist". His third album on EMI, Amor, was released in 1995 and earned Secada his second Grammy for "Best Latin Pop Performance".
Secada co-wrote the song Bella, the Spanish version of She's All I Ever Had for Ricky Martin's 1999 Multi-platinum self-titled album. He also co-wrote and co-produced the song Baila for Jennifer Lopez, which appeared on her 1999 multi-platinum album, On the 6. Dreams That I Carry
Jon Secada Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Contemplative swinging moods, drew me to you
Never mattered when or where, who you'd been with
The color of your hair, baby, I always cared
But you couldn't see inside of me
You didn't notice my intentions
Nothing but dreams is all that I carry, oh
Cynical attitudes, the center of attention
I wonder if you understood you could've changed my life
Focusing my energy, setting expectations
Trying to convince myself, she loves me
A little look here, a little smile there
Moments and memories that we've shared
Roses and things, silly it seems is all that I carry
Dreams that I carry, dreams that I carry with me
Dreams that I carry, dreams that I carry with me
We had no chance, never made plans
So many things slipped through our hands
Don't wanna look back, too late to look back
I gotta get her off my mind
I got no more dreams, it's over for me
Our dreams all I carry, dreams that I carry
Dreams that I carry, dreams that I carry with me
Dreams that I carry, carry, yeah
Dreams that I carry, dreams that I carry with me, baby
Dreams that I carry
The lyrics of Jon Secada's song "Dreams That I Carry" depict the internal struggle and unrequited love of the singer towards someone he deeply cares about. The song's opening lines describe this person's captivating qualities that drew the singer's attention, including their mesmerizing point of view, hypnotic conversations, and contemplative mood swings. The singer emphasizes that nothing about this person's past matters to him; he only cares about the connection they share.
However, the second stanza suggests that the feelings may not be mutual. The singer mentions the person's cynical attitudes and focus on being the center of attention. He wonders if the person comprehends that they could have made a significant difference in his life if they had reciprocated his feelings. Nevertheless, he holds onto the moments they shared, the look and the smile and the memories they created together.
The singer eventually comes to the realization that he needs to move on because things never worked out between them. He wants to put the thoughts of the person behind him, but all he has left are dreams that he carries with him. Overall, the lyrics represent the vulnerability and pain that come with unrequited love.
