In the brothers' track descriptions for Apple Music, Nick explained:
"This song came towards the end of the writing process. We were trying to write a ballad, actually, but we ended up writing this instead because we all came to the studio feeling very cool that day. Feeling like a million bucks."
The music video for the track has a strong eighties aesthetic. According to a press release from the band, it’s meant to evoke “1984 Miami” and “channel the spirit of timeless eighties MTV, in all its decadent glory.” The video features multiple references to previous Jonas Brothers projects, most notably the video for their 2008 hit, “Burnin' Up.”
The track was first introduced to social media via Instagram.

Top to the bottom, just cool
Every little thing that I do
Dammit, I'm feelin' so coo-oo-ool, yeah
Woke up feelin' like a new James Dean
I comb my hair like an old-school scene
I'm feelin' high like a late night summer of last year, yeahStandin' there with the red dress on ya
A Killer Queen like a young Jane Fonda
Is it me, or am I just havin' a good year?
Lately, I've been feelin' so cool (cool)
Top to the bottom, just cool (cool)
Every little thing that I do (do)
Dammit, I feel so coo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ool
It's like, ooh (ooh)
Maybe I should bottle my moves (moves)
Sell 'em for a dollar or two (two)
Dammit, I'm feelin' so coo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ool (cool)
Must've done something right 'cause all these
Lights are green, man, they look like palm trees
And every time that song comes on it's about me
Oh, I feel like Post Malone when I get home
Sittin' there, winnin' like it's Game of Thrones
And now that we've made it, how complicated was last year?
Lately, I've been feelin' so cool (cool)
Top to the bottom, just cool (cool)
Every little thing that I do (do)
Dammit, I feel so coo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ool
It's like, ooh (ooh)
Maybe I should bottle my moves (moves)Sell 'em for a dollar or two (two)
'Cause dammit, I'm feelin' so coo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ool
Woke up feelin' like a new James Dean
I comb my hair like an old-school scene
When I grow up, I wanna be just like me
Lately, I've been feelin' so cool (cool)
Top to the bottom, just cool (cool)
Every little thing that I do (I do)
Dammit, I'm feelin' so coo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ool
It's like, ooh (ooh)
Maybe I should bottle my moves (moves)
Sell 'em for a dollar or two (two)
'Cause dammit, I'm feelin' so coo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ool
(Hey, hey, hey)
Cool
The Jonas Brothers' song "Cool" is a catchy tune about feeling confident and cool. The song opens with the singer proclaiming that he is feeling so cool, from top to bottom. He is proud of everything he is doing and feeling like he is on top of the world. He compares himself to James Dean and Charlie Sheen, combing his hair in an old-school way. The singer is reminiscing about last summer, particularly the night when he saw a girl wearing a red dress standing out in the crowd. He compares her to Jane Fonda, another iconic American actress.
The chorus of the song repeats the sentiment that the singer is feeling cool, and he wants to bottle his moves and sell them for a dollar or two. He feels like he must have done something right because everything is going well for him, and everything is green and sunny, just like palm trees. Every time the song comes on, he feels like it is about him. He feels like he is winning, like he is the king of the world, just like in Game of Thrones. He wonders how complicated last year was, now that he has made it.
The song ends with a repetition of the chorus and a repeated statement that when the singer grows up, he wants to be just like himself. The song is a celebration of self-confidence and self-assuredness.

To all those people being bullied
To all those people who have lost a loved one
To all those people who have lost a pet
To all those people being abused
To all those people going through depression
To all those people with anxiety
To all those people in poverty
To all those people going through a breakup
To all those people having a bad day
To all those people with insecurities
To all those people just having a hard time,
Don't forget
Your weakness today
Is your strength tomorrow
It always gets better
Your loved ones will remain in your hearts
You always have the memories
Love yourself
Stand up for yourself
Money can't buy happiness
Those lovers
Just weren't right
Don't abuse yourself
Don't abuse others
Kill them with kindness
Treat people with kindness
We've all had these times
There will always be a hole in our chests
But
Let's all be each others' strength
weather you're
Black
White
LGBTQ+
Christian
Atheist
Etc
Love yourself
Love others
Don't cut
Don't kill
Don't criticize
Don't beg
Don't do drugs
Don't starve yourself
Don't starve others
We aren't supposed to do any of that
Just keep your strength
Keep your faith
Don't change because you were told to
Be yourself
