Can you hear me?
Gotta know if I'm coming in clearly
Static through the speakers
In a second, your heart will be fearless
Taken for granted
Right now, you can't stand it
It's a show down
Got to scream it out loud
'Cause I'm not faking
Girl, I'm just saying
Hey you, hey you
Now we're into something new
Hey you, hey you
Now you're feeling like I do
Come on, shout it
Let's leave the past behind us
Come on, shout it out
Hey you
Not open to suggestions
I'm dreaming of you and me dancing
No one's interferin'
Gotta do it ourselves
We don't need 'em
Long as we're together
Won't want nobody else, baby
Tell me if you're ready
'Cause tonight you will see
That I'm not fakin'
Girl, I'm just sayin'
Hey you, hey you
Now we're into something new
Hey you, hey you
Now you're feeling like I do
Come on, shout it
Let's leave the past behind us
Come on, shout it out
Hey you
You doubted me
And you trusted me
And I made you see
How to find your relief
I don't know what to say
Get on your way
I gotta hear you scream
Hey you, hey you
Now we're into something new
Hey you, hey you
Now you're feeling like I do
Come on, shout it
Let's leave the past behind us
Come on, shout it out
Hey you
Hey you, hey you
Now we're into something new
Hey you, hey you
Now you're feeling like I do
Come on, shout it
Let's leave the past behind us
Come on, shout it out
Hey you
The Jonas Brothers' song "Hey You" is an upbeat track about leaving the past behind and moving forward with a new chapter in a relationship. The opening lines suggest a live performance with the mic check and questioning whether the audience can hear the singer clearly. The static through the singers may represent the obstacles in the relationship or the difficulties in communication. However, the singer assures that after the static fades away, the listener's heart will become fearless.
The following lines suggest that the singer is tired of being taken for granted and is ready to make a change. They encourage the listener to join them in screaming out loud and not faking their feelings. The chorus repeats the phrase "Hey you," which could be interpreted as the singer addressing their partner or the audience. The repetition adds an energetic and catchy element to the song.
The second verse goes on to describe the singer's dreams of dancing with their partner, free from outside opinions or interference. The lyrics illustrate a sense of togetherness and the desire to be with the partner alone. The pre-chorus reassures the partner that the singer has their best interests at heart and is not faking anything. The bridge emphasizes the dynamic between the two people, with the singer acknowledging that the other person may have had doubts and challenges along the way. However, through perseverance and communication, they were able to overcome them and move on to something new together.
