Not Alone

And you believe that you belong up in the sky
Flap your arms as you run
Every revelation brings you closer to the sun
You fall asleep in motion
And uncharted hemispheres
And you wake up with the stars
And when they hit the ground,
They're nothing but stones
That's how you learn to live alone
That's how you learn to live alone
Bit by bit, you slip away
You lose yourself in pieces in the things you don't say
You're not here, but you're still there
The sun goes up, the sun goes down
But you're not sure that you care
You live inside the false
Until you don't recognize the truth
People send you pictures
And you can't believe it's true
And it's been years since your
House has felt like home
That's how you learn to live alone
That's how you learn to live alone
It don't feel right, but it's not wrong
It's just hard to start again this far along
Brick by brick, you let it go
As you walk away from everything you know
When you release resistance
And you lean into the wind
Until the roof begins to crumble
And the rain comes pouring in
And you sit there in the rubble
Till the rubble feels like home
That's how you learn to live alone
That's how you learn to live alone
That's how you learn to live alone
The song "Not Alone" by Jonathan Jackson is about the process of letting go, moving on, and learning to live alone. The first half of the lyrics describe the fall of a person who tries to fly without wings, but eventually learns to flap their arms and aim higher. The song then explores the idea of losing oneself gradually, piece by piece, until they become isolated and start to live inside a false image of themselves. The lyrics suggest that the process of living alone involves a lot of pain and struggle, but it's necessary for growth and self-discovery.
The second half of the song talks about the difficult process of starting over and walking away from everything one knows. The lyrics describe the transition from resisting change to embracing it, even if it means accepting a new reality that doesn't feel quite right. The song ends with a powerful image of sitting in the rubble, feeling at home amidst the chaos and destruction.
Overall, "Not Alone" is a song about the journey of self-discovery, the process of letting go and moving on, and learning to embrace loneliness as an essential part of personal growth.
