The World
Jonathan Young Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I made a promise for a change
A revolution in the night
Like a flower, dark and blooming
From my love
Not light!
I won't let them interfere,
I won't allow them in my way
The world will know
The night will grow
It all begins...
Today!

I see the future and the fruit it brings...
This town forgot it's sense of reasoning
These ever-twisting days are blackening...
The dark... it starts to turn...
Into dreams!
Please tell me why!
Am I a savior, ment to save us all?
The people cry!
They want an end...
...a curtain call!
I made a promise for a change
A revolution in the night...
Like a flower, dark and blooming
From my love
Not light!
I won't let them interfere,
I won't allow them in my way
The world will know
The night will grow
It all begins today!
Someday, somehow
I'll show the world, in time
Replace these clouds above...
With shining sky!

Please tell me why!
Am I a savior, meant to save us all?
The people cry!
They want an end...
...a curtain call!
I made a promise for a change
A revolution in the night...
Like a flower, dark and blooming
From my love,
Not light!
I won't let them interfere,
I won't allow them in my way
The world will know
The night will grow
It all begins today!
Someday, somehow
I'll show the world, in time

Replace these clouds above...
With shining sky!

Strange Shroom

ryuk is a stand in for the audience, in a way we are the sick and depraved ones. we watched all of this death and mayhem unfold, weve watched betrayal and countless tragedies before us. But in essence why did we do it?
because WE were bored. we wanted to be entertained.
The show acts as a sort of socratic dialogue between Light and Ryuk.
Light wants to rid the world of criminals and evil and replace it with "People whom ive judged to be kind, honest and hardworking"
to which Ryuk replies
"Then you would be the only bad person left"
its about justice, or more subversively, what IS justice?
Light is an ends justify the means kind of guy
but L? thats his foil.
L belives in ridding the world of Injustice wherever it may shine its ugly head. In the show, where L personifies himself in the form of Lind L. Tailor on the news program, he states that "What you are doing is wrong" to Light. That through this, Light is acting unjustly, putting the power of judge jury and executioner on his mantle.
furthermore, he states that not only is kira unjust, but that taking down Kira is its own form of justice.
From this we can garner that L's form of justice isn't set on any specific principle or teaching. Its the pursuit of defeating injustice is justice in of itself. It isnt to rid the world of any specific evil or philosophy, rather as a reaction to injustice.
its more practical to point out injustices that occur rather than a broad definition of what is just. He sees justice as a reponse to injustice. L takes the form of inquisitor with this role, as an ambiguous argument against Kira.

@Pixel Eye I'm not saying it matches light, but the song itself says:
Why am I a broken Messiah?
The "end" which everyone wanted

and then

Why am I a broken Messiah?
The "paradise" which everyone dreamed of

It doesn't really matter if it matches Light Yagami knowledge that Heaven and Hell don't exist, he was making the world a "paradise" which all the honest, hardworking people dreamed of.
