Don't Worry 'Bout Me
Joni James Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'll get along
Forget about me
Just be happy my love
Let's say that our little show is over
And so the story ends
Why not call it a day the sensible way
Look out for yourself
That should be the rule
Give your heart and your love
To whomever you love
Darlin' don't be a fool
Why do we cling to this old faded thing
That used to be
So if you can forget
Then don't worry 'bout me
Why should we cling to some old faded thing
That used to be
So if you can forget
Then you don't worry 'bout me
The song โDonโt Worry โBout Meโ by Joni James is a touching ballad about two people who have reached the end of their relationship. The singer acknowledges that the relationship has come to an end and encourages her former partner to move on without her. She tells him not to worry about her because she will get along just fine on her own. She implores him to forget about her and just be happy, because it is time to let go and move on. She suggests that they still be friends and separate in the sensible way, rather than holding on to what used to be.
The second half of the song offers practical advice to her ex-partner. She urges him to look out for himself and not be a fool, giving his love to whoever he chooses. She acknowledges that it is difficult for people to let go of what was once a precious relationship, but it is time to recognize that it is no longer serving them. The โold faded thing,โ as she calls it, has run its course, and it is time to move on. She encourages her former partner to forget about her, let go of the past, and not worry about what might have been.
The lyrics of โDonโt Worry โBout Meโ are evocative of the emotions that come at the end of a relationship. The singer recognizes that it is time to move on, but still feels a sense of sadness and loss. These are complex emotions that Joni James so poignantly captures in her song. The melody is touching and hauntingly beautiful.
