Somethings Gotta Give
Joni James Lyrics

Meets an old immovable object like me
You can bet just as sure as you live
Something's gotta give
Something's gotta give
Something's gotta give
Warms an old implacable heart such as mine
Don't say no because I insist
Somewhere, somehow
Someone's gotta be kissed
So, en garde, who knows what the fates might have in store
From their vast mysterious sky
I'll try hard ignorin' those lips that I adore
But how long can anyone try?
Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight it with all of our might
Chances are some heavenly star-spangled night
We'll find out just as sure as we live
Something's gotta give
Something's gotta give
Something's gotta give
Fight, fight, fight it with all of your might
Chances are that some heavenly star-spangled night
We'll find out just as sure as we live
Something's gotta give
Something's gotta give
Something's gotta give
Something's gotta give
Something's gotta give
Aw, let's tear it up
The song "Something's Gotta Give" by Joni James is a playful yet emotional ballad about two people who are irresistibly attracted to each other. The lyrics describe the contrast between an "irresistible force" and an "old immovable object," which represents the two characters in the song. The singer is the immovable object, who is hesitant to give in to the temptation presented by the irresistible force, represented by the other person. However, the singer's heart is "old implacable," and it's clear that she longs to find love and to be kissed.
The lyrics are filled with contradictions: the "irresistible force" meets the "old immovable object," an "irrepressible smile" warms an "implacable heart." These contradictions are meant to highlight the tension between the two characters and their conflicting desires. The chorus repeats the phrase "Something's gotta give," emphasizing that a change is necessary for these two people to find happiness and fulfillment.
The final verse of the song reveals that the singer has decided to take a chance on love, accepting that "something's gotta give." She acknowledges that the road ahead will be filled with challenges, but she is prepared to fight for what she wants. The song ends on an upbeat note, with the singer urging listeners to "tear it up" and embrace life.
