Venus
Joni James Lyrics
Hey, Venus, oh, Venus
Hey, Venus, oh, Venus
Venus, if you will
Please send a little girl for me to thrill
A girl who wants my kisses and my arms
A girl with all the charms of you
Venus, make her fair
A lovely girl with sunlight in her hair
And take the brightest stars up in the skies
Venus, goddess of love that you are
Surely the things I ask
Can't be too great a task
Venus, if you do
I promise that I always will be true
I'll give her all the love I have to give
As long as we both shall live
Hey, Venus, oh, Venus
Make my wish come true

Totally agree. The only entertainment we had in the 40s and early
50s was radio. Great music was literally in the air. The top female singer of
every year from 1948 through 1951 was the Singing Rage, Miss Patti Page, always
with very close competition. Then came Joni and 'Why Don't You Believe Me,
which was her first recording, and to the ears of the vast majority of the
listening audience, myself included, there could be only on Female Singer Of
The Year, that year and every year since. I still occasionally get chills just
hearing some phrase she's singing.

I'm 60. I learned to sing around 1960 by listening to 78 rpm's when I was little. Joni stands out, very warm, sincere on pitch experessive voice, and the orchestra arrnagements are special, beautiful. I became a music teacher and credit Joni in part for the influence. I could listen to her all day!

There will always be only one Joni James. She was the sweetheart of all of us Korean War veterans at that time. She was #1 at the time. I will always remember her recording of her #1 song" Why Don't You Believe Me".
