I think the answer lies in her comment during the interview where she said on releasing her album as an independendent
"To compete with with the record companies you need a lot of money which I didn't have at that time"
All I can say to that is whoever had her as an artist under their umbrella and didn't back her in the way she deserved at the time SHAME ON YOU as you ROBBED US OF ONE OF THE GREATEST MUSICAL TALENT IN HISTORY!!!
Still now I can only IMAGINE what she could and should have achieved with PROPER backing...
Should have AT LEAST a JAMES BOND to her name as the is NO ONE CAME CLOSE to what she did the way she did it......

Because the singles she released were not very good. While there are all sorts of variables that determine what is released, if the songs are not strong enough they do not sell. Simple.
