Birdie
Jordy Searcy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
or is that feathers?
and there are stories,
beneath those blue eyes.
Likes to fight for
all that matters,
Goes to school here
Gonna be hard letting go of you, birdie I got
used to your wings,
I got used to your wings.
Gonna be hard letting go of you, birdie I got
used to your wings,
I got used to your wings.
When the glass breaks
you get a crystal,
and you discover
what's inside.
Yeah that's kinda like, my birdie,
Yeah she's not perfect,
but she knows that's alright,
Yeah that's alright!
Gonna be hard letting go of you, birdie I got
used to your wings,
I got used to your wings.
Gonna be hard letting go of you, birdie I got
used to your wings,
I got used to your wings.
Fear is the fable that ties you down
and nobody will, ever have wings like you now.
Cause you see we are near you
but some of us are still, on, the ground.
I believe in you, birdie,
so spread out those wings,
spread out those wings!
I believe in you, birdie,
so spread out those wings, yeah!
I believe in you,
I believe with you,
I believe for you,
I believe in
you.
Jordy Searcy's song Birdie, is an ode to a special person or perhaps even a metaphor for a special experience that the singer cherishes. The opening lines, "She's got blonde hair or is that feathers? and there are stories, beneath those blue eyes" suggests that he is talking about someone who is special and perhaps even unique, like a rare bird. The singer admires this person's fighting spirit for what matters, and relates to her as they both go to school together. The chorus "Gonna be hard letting go of you, birdie I got used to your wings" reveals the singer's struggle with the thought of losing this person or special experience.
The next stanza compares the person to a crystal, which represents the idea that even though they may not be perfect, they possess a unique beauty that cannot be replicated. The chorus repeats again indicating the singer's difficulty in letting go of the experience or person. The bridge, "Fear is the fable that ties you down and nobody will ever have wings like you now" empowers the person to break free from their fears and be fearless. The singer expresses their belief in the person and encourages them to take flight, which is a beautiful metaphor for moving on or taking on new experiences. The song closes with the repeated phrase "I believe in you", reinforcing the message of support and belief in the person's potential.
