His characteristic style fuses rock and roll, samba, bossa nova, jazz, maracatu, funk, ska and even hip hop, with lyrics that mix humor and satire, as well as themes esoteric. Jorge's work has a unique importance for Brazilian music, as it incorporates new elements in swing and guitar playing, with characteristics of North American rock, soul and funk. Furthermore, he brought Arab and African influences, coming from his mother, born in Ethiopia.
He influenced sambalanço and samba-rock and was covered and honored by countless exponents of the new generations of Brazilian music, such as Mundo Livre S/A, Os Paralamas do Sucesso, Skank, Fernanda Abreu, Racionais MC's and Belô Velloso. Jorge Ben Jor exploded with the song "Mas, Que Nada!" and, soon after, ratified his talent with another great hit, "Chove Chuva". Two songs that were neither bossa nova nor samba. Purists thought his music was too modern. It was difficult for musicians at the time to follow him, so much so that his first albums were recorded with a group that played samba jazz at Beco das Garrafas, Meirelles e os Copa 5, led by saxophonist J. T. Meirelles.

Terrivelmente feminina
Com você eu faço um trato
Um trato de comunhão de bem
Um trato de comunhão de bem
O negócio é o seguinte
Você é minha
Pois que é fraco se arrebenta
Quem não poder sai da frente
Quem é forte que se agüenta
Mais quem ama se dá bem
Eu quero ela
Eu quero ela
Eu quero ela
These lyrics are from the song Rita Jeep by Brazilian artist Jorge Ben. The lyrics are sung in Portuguese and translate to:
"You're cheap
Terribly feminine
With you I make a deal
A deal of communion of goods
The deal is the following
You're mine
And I'm yours too
Because what's weak breaks
Who cannot handle it, step aside
Who's strong, hold on
But who loves, does well
I want her
I want her
I want her"
The song is about a woman named Rita Jeep who is described as "cheap" and "terribly feminine." The singer is making a deal with her, a communion of goods, indicating a partnership or a relationship. He mentions that whoever is weak will break, and whoever is strong will hold on. The last line expresses the singer's desire for Rita Jeep.

Na verdade eles tiveram apenas um caso, não chegando a ser namoro já que na época Rita namorava seu companheiro de banda Arnaldo Baptista. Acontece que este a traia muito, e como ela nunca foi santa devolvia na mesma moeda.
