Beautiful Little Fools
Jorja Smith Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Beautiful little fools
That's what us girls are destined for
Beautiful little fools
Born to be adored

Where is the feminine race?
Where are these so-called independent women?
Who pick up their flaws
And let the world in
Where are these girls?

Beautiful little fools
That's what us girls are destined for
Beautiful little fools
Born to be adored

Most of these girls pick up her brush
They might not like art, but their face is a canvas
Designing something that is not their reflection
Becoming a beautiful little Hollywood perception

Beautiful little fools
That's what us girls are destined for
Beautiful little fools
Born to be adored

Didn't your mother ever tell you love yourself?
Well if your mother was Zelda or Daisy, I guess not
Why can't you be a beautiful little girl
Instead of being a beautiful little fool?
I guess we're all just beautiful little girls
Playing a game of being fooled, yeah

Beautiful little fools
That's what us girls are destined for
Beautiful little fools
Born to be adored

Beautiful little fools, no
We're all just born to be adored

We're beautiful little fools
We're all just born to be adored

Overall Meaning

Jorja Smith's song "Beautiful Little Fools" provides powerful social commentary on traditional societal expectations placed on young women. The song starts with a statement that girls are "beautiful little fools", implying that society has placed restrictive expectations on them, forcing them to conform and prioritize their looks over intelligence or character. The following lines question the so-called "independent women" who still feel the need to cover their flaws, letting the world shape their self-image. Jorja raises a vital question by asking where these girls are who claim to be independent, implying that even these women can be subjected to societal expectations, which makes it hard for them to feel confident in their natural looks.

In the second verse, Jorja talks about how women are fixated on their outward appearance and feel the need to cover up their flaws. She compares the face of a woman to a canvas, which is an evocative metaphor. Women look at themselves as unfinished work and try to make themselves picture-perfect rather than accepting themselves the way they are. The line "becoming a beautiful little Hollywood perception" emphasizes the idea that women are not happy with themselves and are trying to emulate ideas of perfection set by the media. In the last verse, Jorja asks why mothers don't teach their daughters to love themselves instead of following societal norms. She poses the question of what's stopping young girls from becoming beautiful but confident individuals instead of beautiful little fools who let others shape their image. Jorja portrays them as playing a 'game' of trying to become perfect but in the end not finding true happiness and self-worth.

Her voice is just mesmerising, it's like a soft caress... I just love her

@FlamuriHp

Yeah i like her too , but i just don't like the songs being only for feminists ... i'm not gay either

@reneg6391

Mr Willis the song isn't only for feminists anyone can listen to them. maybe of you are a women then you might relate to it more. But I still listen songs by male singers signing about their experience(which is obviously male) and still find them interesting and relevant. Also what's wrong with her saying as it is women are just expected to be pretty assesories, which is why she is talking about how ridiculous that is and women should love themselves more in the sense of being confident and independent. which is a good message in my opinion. Don't all the guy songs always complain about how women are shallow clingy gold diggers?

@TylerCA

I don't know why, but I thought you spelled "soft cheese"...and yet I still agreed

@TheFever77

At a quick glance it does look like it says soft cheese.
