The restaurant where he worked as a young man, "La Sirena" was frequented by Andres Huesca, who heard some of his compositions of the then young singer, among which was "Cuando el Destino" and "Yo". Huesca immediately decided to record this and following this in 1948 for the first time on the radio station XEX-AM and months after the XEW-AM, which was catapulted to fame. He married Paloma Gálvez and had two children, José Alfredo and Paloma.
He had no musical training—according to the singer Miguel Aceves Mejía, Jiménez didn't play an instrument and didn't even know the Spanish terms for "waltz" and "key". Nonetheless he composed more than 1000 songs. Among the most famous are "Ella", "Media Vuelta", "El Rey", "El Jinete", "Si Nos Dejan", "Amanecí Entre Tus Brazos", "Cuando el Destino", "El Caballo Blanco", "Llegó Borracho el Borracho" and "Que Te Vaya Bonito", as well as "Camino de Guanajuato", where he sang about his home State of Guanajuato as well as his home town of Dolores Hidalgo Guanajuato.
In addition to his own hit recordings, many of his songs have been recorded successfully by recording artists around the Spanish-speaking world, most notably by Pedro Infante, Rocío Durcal, Javier Solís, Pedro Fernández, Jorge Negrete, Vikki Carr, Luis Miguel, Lola Beltrán, Lucha Villa, Vicente Fernández and by Spaniards Julio Iglesias, Joaquín Sabina and Manolo García.
Jiménez passed at a young age, like others of his contemporaries: Negrete, Infante and Solís, the so-called "Three Mexican Roosters", or Tres Gallos Mexicanos all died young. He was struck-down by hepatitis at age 47 and is regarded, along with Agustín Lara and Juan Gabriel, as one of the best songwriters that Mexico has ever produced. He was certainly one of the most prolific composers in the history of popular music, world-wide.
Shortly before his death, he wrote and recorded his last song, "Gracias", thanking the public for all of the affection they had shown him. His tomb has become a place of pilgrimage for serious music fans from around the Spanish-speaking world.
Amanecí en tus brazos

entre tus brazos,
y desperté llorando
de alegría
me cobijé la cara
con tus manos,
para seguirte amando todavía
y despertaste tu,
y me querías decir
no se que cosas
pero callé tu boca
con mis besos,
y asi pasaron muchas,
muchas horas
Cuando llegó la noche y aparecio la Luna,
y entro por la ventana
que cosa más bonita cuando la luz del cielo,
ilumino tu cara
Yo me volví a meter
entre tus brazos,
tu me querías decir
no se que cosas,
pero calle tu boca
con mis besos
y asi pasaron muchas
muchas horas
y asi pasaron muchas
muchas horas...
The lyrics to Jose Alfredo Jimenez's song Amanecí en tus brazos describe the joy and happiness of being in the arms of the one you love. The singer wakes up once again in the arms of his lover and is overwhelmed with tears of joy. He covers his face with his lover's hands and continues to love her even more. Meanwhile, his lover wakes up, almost still asleep and tries to say something, but he silences her with his kisses. Together, they spend hours in each other's arms until the night comes and the moonlight shines on her face through the window, which is a beautiful sight to the singer. He goes back to her arms and once again, they spend many hours together as he silences her whenever she tries to speak with his kisses.
The lyrics describe a relationship that is full of love, trust, and passion. The singer is so in love with his partner that he cannot bear to hear her say anything negative, and instead chooses to express his love through physical affection. The song is both romantic and sensual, with a strong emphasis on the intimate connection between the two lovers. It shows that love can be expressed in many different ways, but ultimately it is the deep emotional connection that keeps two people together.

Amanecí otra vez entre tus brazos
I woke up again in your arms
Y desperté llorando de alegría
And I woke up crying tears of joy
Me cobijé la cara con tus manos, para seguirte amando todavía
I covered my face with your hands, to keep on loving you
Y despertaste tú, casi dormida
And you woke up, almost asleep
Y me querías decir no sé qué cosas
And you wanted to tell me things, I don't know what
Pero callé tu boca con mis besos
But I silenced your mouth with my kisses
Y así pasaron muchas, muchas horas
And so many, many hours went by
Cuando llegó la noche y apareció la Luna
When the night came and the moon appeared
Y entró por la ventana que cosa más bonita
And it came in through the window, such a beautiful sight
Cuando la luz del cielo iluminó tu cara
When the light from the sky illuminated your face
Yo me volví a meter entre tus brazos
I went back to hiding in your arms
Tu me querías decir no sé qué cosas
You wanted to tell me things, I don't know what
Pero callé tu boca con mis besos
But I silenced your mouth with my kisses
Y así pasaron muchas, muchas horas
And so many, many hours went by
Y así pasaron muchas, muchas horas...
And so many, many hours went by...
