Capmany is widely recognised as the most important rock musician and a cornerstone in Costa Rican rock development. Many musicians have said they found him a source of inspiration, and most of his songs have been sung by other people as a form of tribute.
Sony Music edited a last album with Capmany's music after his death. "Volando alto/La historia salvaje" is a doble disc, one with his old hits and other with unreleased songs that were completed by his bandmates.

The song "Cuando?" by José Capmany may seem simple with just a few lines on repetition, but it speaks volumes about longing for a certain moment or someone. The first two lines ask when the singer will be able to look into the eyes of the person they want to see. The analogy of a flower opening up and showing its color could mean that the person they want to see is finally revealing their true self, or that the singer is finally able to see them for who they truly are.
The chorus repeats the word "Cuando?" meaning "When?" in English and adds that when that moment comes to pass, the sun will shine brighter than ever before. This hopeful line could symbolize that when the singer finally gets to see the person they've been longing for or when their dream comes true, the world will seem brighter and better.
The subsequent lines about the day after the night, the sum of names, and what is yet to be lived and seen, all lead back to the initial question of when that special moment will happen. Suscribo tus palabras. Capmany era un gran lírico poético y su sensibilidad social esa fuera de discusión. El destino fue brutal arrancándole la vida de tan infausta manera y privándonos de su presencia artística y humana. Capmany ya es eterno en nuestra música.
