The song Crosses, from Crosses EP and the later Veneer, appeared on the finale of the second season of the popular American television comedy-drama The O.C.. His cover of Heartbeats (also from Veneer) was used in a popular Sony BRAVIA TV commercial featuring coloured bouncing balls in San Francisco and an episode of Zach Braff's Scrubs
His song Far Away was also prominently featured in the Rockstar video game Red Dead Redemption.
His trademark sound is solo acoustic guitar with soft melody. His work, although mostly original, does include acoustic covers of great hits such as Love Will Tear Us Apart, Born in the U.S.A., and Teardrop.
González also appears in the Zero 7 album The Garden, in which he sings on three tracks and on a re-worked version of Crosses.
Down The Line

I know they're not mine
Don't wash the dirt off of your hands
You're doing the same mistake twice
Making the same mistake twice
Come on over
don't be so caught up
I see problems down the line
I know they're not mine
I see darkness down the line
I know it's not fine
But don't wash the dirt off of your hands
You're doing the same mistake twice
Making the same mistake twice
Come on over
Don't be so caught up
It's all about colonizing
I see problems down the line
I know they're not mine
Don't let the darkness eat you up
Don't let the darkness eat you up
Don't let the darkness eat you up
Don't let the darkness eat you up
Don't let the darkness eat you up
Don't let the darkness eat you up
Don't let the darkness eat you up
Don't let the darkness eat you up
The lyrics to José González's song Down the Line seem to touch on themes of compassion, responsibility, and self-awareness. The opening lines, "I see problems down the line, I know they're not mine," suggest an acute awareness of the struggles and difficulties that others may face, while also hinting at a recognition that these issues are not necessarily one's to solve. The repetition of the line, "don't wash the dirt off of your hands, you're doing the same mistake twice," highlights the idea that it is all too easy to ignore or deny our own role in perpetuating problems, rather than taking responsibility and working to improve them.
The chorus, with its repeated refrain of "don't let the darkness eat you up," seems to speak to the idea that negativity and despair can be all-consuming if we do not stay vigilant and work to actively combat them. The closing lines of the song suggest that there is a path forward, one that involves not being "caught up" and being willing to act with compassion and empathy, even in the face of challenging circumstances.
Overall, “Down the Line” is a song that invites us to consider our own responsibility and engagement with the world around us, while also recognizing the importance of self-care and staying true to our values in the face of adversity.

Letra
Veo problemas en el futuro
I see problems down the line
sé que tengo razón
I know that I’m right
Había suciedad en tus manos
There was a dirt upon your hands
Cometer el mismo error dos veces
Doing the same mistake twice
Cometer el mismo error dos veces
Making the same mistake twice
Ven y sé tan atrapado
Come on over and be so caught up
No se trata de comprometer
It's not about compromising
Veo problemas en el futuro
I see problems down the line
sé que tengo razón
I know that I’m right
Veo oscuridad en la línea
I see darkness down the line
Sé que es difícil luchar
I know it's hard to fight
Había suciedad en tus manos
There was a dirt upon your hands
Cometer el mismo error dos veces
Doing the same mistake twice
Cometer el mismo error dos veces
Making the same mistake twice
ven aquí
Come on over
Estar tan atrapado, todo se trata de compromiso
Be so caught up, it's all about compromise
Veo problemas en el futuro
I see problems down the line
sé que tengo razón
I know that I’m right
No dejes que la oscuridad te devore
Don’t let the darkness eat you up
No dejes que la oscuridad te devore
Don’t let the darkness eat you up
No dejes que la oscuridad te devore
Don’t let the darkness eat you up
No dejes que la oscuridad te devore
Don’t let the darkness eat you up
No dejes que la oscuridad te devore
Don’t let the darkness eat you up
No dejes que la oscuridad te devore
Don’t let the darkness eat you up
No dejes que la oscuridad te devore
Don’t let the darkness eat you up
No dejes que la oscuridad te devore
