In the first stanza of Jose Luis Perales' song Brindemos por él, the singer is urging the subject of the song to stop thinking and to talk to them. They acknowledge that yesterday, the subject was with someone they loved and today, that person has gone away. The singer knows that the subject spent warm nights and witnessed sunrises with this person they loved. They have discovered happiness with them, but the subject's clock has stopped with the person's departure. The singer urges the subject to start their clock again because it is too soon to declare that life is over when love has left.
In the following stanza, the singer tells the subject to let go of the hurt and smile again. Life is wide, and love's bruises can be forgotten. After every night, comes a morning, and the seagulls return to fly. The pain will be replaced with joy, and even if loneliness sleeps beside them, it doesn't matter because life starts anew every day. The chorus celebrates the continuation of life by inviting the subject to dance to the music of an old guitar, drink until dawn and toast to life, love and the person they loved. They acknowledge that the love didn't last and, therefore, they should forget the pain and look forward to the future.

Me recreé en esta canción cuando me dejó un novio mío allá por los años de mari castañas. Lloraba y lloraba y seguía escuchando esta canción. Y cuánta razón tiene Perales!!!!!
