The song "La espera" by José Luis Perales tells the story of a man who waits for his love to return to him. The man has created a beautiful home for himself in a valley surrounded by mountains, where he has planted trees and flowers, including a willow and a cypress, and has decorated his balcony with a myriad of geraniums. He waits for his love to arrive, hoping she will turn up any moment. He checks his watch and smiles, thinking that she will show up soon. As he waits, he remembers the moments they spent together, caresses the memories, and imagines the future they will share.
But time goes by, and the seasons change. Spring turns into summer, and autumn turns into winter. The snow falls on the mountains, and the sun timidly enters the windows. The man continues to wait, hoping his love will return, checking his watch and smiling. He grows old, but he never gives up hope, thinking that she will come back for him.
The lyrics of the song capture the essence of love, hope, and patience. They describe the beauty of nature and the peace it offers in times of solitude, as well as the pain and longing that come when someone is missing. The song offers a profound message about the power of love, its ability to transcend time and distance, and the importance of never giving up on the people we care about.
