Sweet Dreams
Joseph Lyrics

I'll return to my sleepless night
Dreaming with my eyes open
Watch the shadows play on the ceiling
As the figures dance by
Sweet dreams
My love, I love you, good night
Where we're all made white
I'll find you new in the morning
Where we're all made white
I'll find you new in the morning
Where we're all made white
I'll find you new in the morning
Where we're all made white
I'll find you new in the morning
Where we're all made white
Sweet dreams
My love, I love you, good night
My love, I love you, good night
In Joseph's song Sweet Dreams, the first few lines seem to express the idea of being lost in one's own thoughts and dreams at night. The singer suggests that while they themselves are struggling to find peace in their sleepless state, the person they're addressing should try to return to their own dreams. The next lines are almost like a stream of consciousness, with the singer describing how they're dreaming even though their eyes are open. They watch shadows on the ceiling and figures that dance by, suggesting that their mind is active with imagery and ideas even as they try to sleep.
But despite the restlessness conveyed in these lines, the chorus of the song offers a comforting message of love and hope. The singer tells their loved one to rest well and have "sweet dreams," reassuring them that they'll be back in the morning to offer new love and support. The last line of the chorus brings in a religious element, with the idea that everyone will be "made white" in the morning--which can be interpreted as a reference to purity, absolution, or spiritual rebirth.
