In 2006, Arthur's song "In the Sun" was covered by Michael Stipe (of R.E.M.) and Coldplay singer Chris Martin. Released for a Hurricane Katrina Relief program, the EP includes six versions of the cover, one of which has Arthur himself singing with Stipe.
Arthur established his own record label, Lonely Astronaut Records, in 2006, and released two studio albums, Let's Just Be (2007) and Temporary People (2008) with backing band The Lonely Astronauts. Arthur subsequently returned to performing and recording as a solo artist, releasing The Graduation Ceremony in 2011 and the double album, Redemption City in 2012.
Arthur is also an acclaimed painter and designer. His artwork has graced the sleeves of his entire discography; the sleeve design for his 1999 album entitled Vacancy was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package.
Anywhere With You

Belief is just a resident
Of things you heard when the pain was clear
You've been traveling in so far
Only to find out your still nowhere near
You're the creator of the gods
Most just want your money
But one or two will kill you for a song
Singing to the drifter
Singing to the banker and the maid
Singing to the sling shots
Singing to the diamond and the ???
And the Thieves are gone
And the thieves are gone
And the thieves are gone
I'm ready to go anywhere
Anywhere with you
And we sing this song over over
With you my love
Shouting at the fire engines
Rolling down Jefferson at dawn
Everyone corrupted
And looking like there's nowhere to belong
I see your eye's are spinning
Swallowing the world the way it blooms
The walls began to dance
And your thoughts began appearing in balloons
So when the strangers sugar coat servants at the seam
As the beggars bleeding butchers betting back the bread the bank round you to bring
And trucks with number flames roll undisturbed thru greenhill, so will I
Your trying to nurse the sprit, but it's enough for most just to survive
And their eye's are gone
I'm ready to go anywhere
Anywhere with you
And we sing this song over over
With you my love
Someone needs an operator
Someone else is broken on the road
The one by loves it's self too much
That never got around to explode
Games and animators say
We'll be forgiven and do time
But there has always been an alligator
Biting off the heads of those who shine
Nothing here is real
And nothing here holds any true weight
Heading out of Troutville
Bleeding hands reaching for the bank
Pull me from the stream
And I will fight like danger in the air
And as you are driving by the accident
Each review will start to stare
I'm sending you a postcard
I'm ready to go anywhere
Anywhere with you
As we sing this song over over
With you my love
I'm sending you a post card
But I am nowhere
And you are nowhere too
Well I don't have a stamp
So I'll just burn it if it's all the same to you
It held no information
Cause every word that's spoken is a lie
For you were never born
So there is no way you will ever die
What's the use of feeling for someone
That you made up in your mind
You dream that you are lost
And you imagine that there is a you to find
But there just aint nobody
No savior, no heaven and no hell
Just a load of broken junk
You're looking for an idiot to sell
Your life it doesn't work
But you've resigned yourself to live it till the end
The way you look so kind
But no one seems to notice so you just pretend
Then you get depressed
I'm ready to go anywhere
Any where with you
As we sing this song over over
With you my love
Then you get depressed
_
So you find yourself a doctor and a pill
To make the line more comfortable
And make-believe your following your will
The song "Anywhere With You" by Joseph Arthur is a beautifully introspective and poetic exploration of loneliness, disillusionment, and the search for connection in a world that feels fundamentally disconnected. The song starts off with a powerful observation about the nature of belief: that it is often just a response to pain, a way of making sense of the world when things seem confusing or overwhelming. The themes of disillusionment and isolation are woven throughout the song, with lines like "Most just want your money / But one or two will kill you for a song" highlighting the ways in which the world can be cruel and unforgiving.
Despite the bleakness of some of the lyrics, there is also a sense of hope and possibility running through the song. This is perhaps best encapsulated in the line "I'm ready to go anywhere / Anywhere with you", which speaks to a deep yearning for connection and meaningful human relationships. The final verse of the song is particularly powerful in this regard, as it speaks to the idea that life may not always be easy or perfect, but that there is still beauty and love to be found in even the darkest moments.
Overall, "Anywhere With You" is a deeply moving and thought-provoking song that touches on a wide range of complex emotions and themes. By exploring the complexities of human experience with a keen eye for detail and a sharp understanding of the ways in which we are all interconnected, Joseph Arthur has created a song that is truly timeless and resonant.

I see your eye's are spinning
I see that you are confused and disoriented
Swallowing the world the way it blooms
Taking in the world in its entirety
The walls began to dance
Your perception is distorted
And your thoughts began appearing in balloons
Your thoughts are now disconnected and seem to be drifting
So when the strangers sugar coat servants at the seam
So when people are deceptive and try to appear better than they are
As the beggars bleeding butchers betting back the bread the bank round you to bring
As the poor people who are being taken advantage of, fight for what they need to survive
And trucks with number flames roll undisturbed thru greenhill, so will I
And machines continue to operate regardless of the chaos in the world, the same way I will continue moving forward
Your trying to nurse the sprit, but it's enough for most just to survive
You are trying to heal your spirit, but for most people, just making it through each day is enough
And their eye's are gone
And they have lost their sense of purpose and meaning
Someone needs an operator

Someone else is broken on the road
Someone else is hurt and suffering
The one by loves it's self too much
The one who is in love with themselves and is selfish
That never got around to explode
Has never been able to fully express themselves
Games and animators say
Games and the fantasy world can be used to escape reality
We'll be forgiven and do time
We'll be forgiven for our wrongdoings with time
But there has always been an alligator
But there have always been dangerous things waiting to destroy our dreams and hopes
Biting off the heads of those who shine
Destroying the people who try to stand out in the crowd
Nothing here is real
Nothing in life is as it seems
And nothing here holds any true weight
Nothing really matters, it is all superficial
Heading out of Troutville
Leaving somewhere where things were bad or hopeless
Bleeding hands reaching for the bank
Straining to survive and hold on to what little security we have
Pull me from the stream
Help me escape from the current that is leading me to destruction
And I will fight like danger in the air
I will fight like my life depends on it, with danger all around me
And as you are driving by the accident
As you witness the mistakes and tragedies of others
Each review will start to stare
You start to notice the pain and suffering in the world
I'm sending you a postcard
I am sending you a message from my life
But I am nowhere
But I don't feel like I belong anywhere
And you are nowhere too
And you don't feel like you belong anywhere either
Well I don't have a stamp
And I don't have the means to send you a proper message
So I'll just burn it if it's all the same to you
So instead, I will dispose of it and continue on with life
It held no information
The message did not contain anything of significance
Cause every word that's spoken is a lie
Because everything that is said is not necessarily true
For you were never born
Because you were never actually born, you were just created by others' beliefs
So there is no way you will ever die
So you will never really be able to end or escape your existence
What's the use of feeling for someone
What's the point of caring for someone who is not real
That you made up in your mind
That you created in your own imagination
You dream that you are lost
You imagine that you are lost in order to find yourself
And you imagine that there is a you to find
And you believe that there is a real version of yourself yet to be discovered
But there just aint nobody
But in reality, there is no one like that
No savior, no heaven and no hell
There are no divine beings or punishment, it's all a big lie
Just a load of broken junk
Our beliefs and rules are just a bunch of meaningless stuff
You're looking for an idiot to sell
You're looking for someone to buy into these beliefs and rules, even if they are foolish
Your life it doesn't work
Your life is not functioning the way you want it to
But you've resigned yourself to live it till the end
You've accepted that this is just how your life is
The way you look so kind
Despite this, you continue to put on a good face and be kind to others
But no one seems to notice so you just pretend
But no one seems to appreciate or acknowledge it, so you feel like you have to pretend
Then you get depressed
Eventually, this takes a toll on your mental state and you become depressed
So you find yourself a doctor and a pill
So you seek help and take medication to deal with these feelings
To make the line more comfortable
To make life more bearable
And make-believe your following your will
And pretend that you are still in control of your life
And we sing this song over over
And we continue to live and express ourselves
With you my love
With you, the one I care for
Then you get depressed
Eventually, this takes a toll on your mental state and you become depressed
