House Of Mirrors
Josephine Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Worn down by mistakes made
I try to find familiar faces but they fade
Love, desire I can't help but feel so drained
And this house of mirrors is bending the truth oh so well
I'm making a fool of myself
Strong as I've been no one wants to see the change
And this house of mirrors is bending the truth oh so well
I'm making a fool of myself
Last time I laughed I was laughing at you
'Cause the mirrors, they always do as we do
Forever they're our only proof.
And this house of mirrors is bending the truth oh so well
I'm making a fool of myself
And this house of mirrors is bending the truth oh so well
I'm making a fool of myself.
In "House of Mirrors," Josephine sings about grappling with self-doubt and insecurity. She describes herself as brave but still vulnerable to the rain, a metaphor for difficult emotions or situations. She acknowledges that she's made mistakes and is struggling to find comfort in familiar faces that seem to be fading away. The ideas of love and desire fill her with exhaustion, indicating a possible struggle with romantic relationships.
As the song progresses, Josephine introduces the concept of a "house of mirrors," which bends the truth and causes her to make a fool of herself. This house of mirrors could represent the way she sees herself or how others see her. Each step she takes is different from the last, highlighting how change is difficult, even when it's essential for personal growth. She laments that no one wants to witness her change, perhaps feeling isolated in her experiences. Josephine adds that mirrors always do as we do, indicating that her insecurities are perhaps a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Overall, "House of Mirrors" is a poignant exploration of the inner turmoil that comes with self-doubt and a lack of self-confidence. Josephine exemplifies the emotional complexity of these struggles with her hypnotic voice and stirring lyrics.
