Player - Employee
The company owner may have to pay damages (gov't), the president (principal) is going to talk to the manager (coach) and the manager is going to talk to/fire the employee (player). No employee is going to be legally punished for what another employee does? Why should kids, who likely worked their asses off for a chance to play and win, be disqualified for what someone they have no control over did?
Also if you really think a team should be disqualified for something like that can you imagine the cheating one could do? College football, pay someone to join a team, not good enough to play just sit on the bench all year and when they make it to the championship have that kid tackle a ref and cost the team the game?

Can’t force an apology, and if you could would it mean anything if the guy who needed to apologize did it reluctantly? Better to not expect anything from him anymore.

@Deadpan for Life : Little late for an apology when you assault and seriously injure someone. If he gave one it wouldn't likely be sincere unless his lawyer tells him to do one as a plea-bargain tool to impress the court for probation or a light prison sentence. This young guy is overdue to learn accountability for his behavior. It's a shame when an 18 year old goes to prison, but maybe that's the wake up call he needs.
