Josh is a man who thinks he is still a boy, but not like some Peter Pan. Josh is way too grounded to be any kind of flying pixie. What he is that makes him so childlike is his sense of optimism, wonder and unfortunately, his bad temperament. That kid crying on the train 'cause his mom won't let him have a doughnut? That's Josh Bloom.
Josh was born in Brooklyn, NY and spent his childhood and adolescence in the suburbs of NYC, then the Midwest, back to the aforementioned ‘burbs, then NYC, then Colorado and now, once again, NYC -- probably his permanent home. Throughout these travels, Josh watched his parents divorce, his Dad disappear from the home and his mother disappear from the Earth.
These trials and their subsequent convictions created both a monster and a songwriter. Self-help really means something in the personage of Josh Bloom. He has accepted that he is a work in progress, and insane as it may seem, he wants to share the process. All of it. Wrapped in insultingly catchy, rhythmic and rockin' tunes that are sung with urgency and abandon. As for the monster... maybe Josh is actually more like a character from "Where The Wild Things Are" when you get down to it. Not that scary after all.
Songs like "Getting Ahead" (about teenage doubts giving way to an adult confidence that comes with experience, but not necessarily knowledge), "Don't Stay The Same" (a command to always be becoming), and "He Was Born" (a document of the emergence of the true self) are just a few that speak to how together Josh is getting his shit and how fucking far he really has to go.
Why pay attention? We all like to witness a car crash, yeah? And we all love a happy ending, too. And you like music, of course. Josh Bloom gives you these things in less than three minutes flat. His music is a saga -- a tall tale with an ending that has yet to be written. When you listen, you become part of the story, too. You're vital to Josh Bloom. Just take a look at your sleeve!
***
Dozens of Josh Bloom songs now exist in demo form featuring Josh alone, accompanied only by his guitar. The best of these tunes are currently being assembled and recorded with a full band. Josh Bloom's debut album will be available as soon as it's done.
On My Own
Josh Bloom Lyrics

Now these people go and try to change me
Everybody tells me that I'm goin crazy
I feel like my life is rearranging
This life don't work like that
My heart won't break that fast
But I been hurting bad lately
I don't wanna fall in love
If it hurts so bad
Cuz you know i thought that love
Was meant to last
Now I'm lying on my own
In an empty bed
Counting stars like broken
Hearts left to mend
They can tell me she don't matter
And they'll say I'm better off without her
But there's just something that's about her
I've known she's the one since I've had her
This life don't work like that
My heart won't break that fast
But I been hurting bad lately
I need somebody to save me
I don't wanna fall in love
If it hurts so bad
Cuz you know i thought that love
Was meant to last
Now I'm lying on my own
In an empty bed
Counting stars like broken
Hearts left to mend
The lyrics to Josh Bloom's song "On My Own" suggest that the singer is going through a tough time. He has been dealing with his hurt alone and has been feeling like he is losing control of his life. Despite everyone around him telling him to change, he understands that things don't work like that. His heart can't break so easily, yet he still feels lost and in need of saving.
The singer then goes on to discuss his feelings about love. He admits that falling in love hurts and questions if it's worth it. He thought that love was supposed to last forever, but he finds himself lying in an empty bed, feeling broken-hearted and alone. Although others may suggest that he's better off without the person he loves, he knows that she's the one he needs to help mend his broken heart.
The song is an emotional ballad about heartbreak and the struggles of moving on. It highlights the power of love and the pain that can come with it. The singer's raw and vulnerable lyrics provide a sense of relatability that can resonate with many listeners.
