Because
Josh Freese Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Call me in the morning
And tell me how it was
Cause I'm not gonna be there
Because because because

I never had it in me
But even if it was
I ain't ever gonna tell you
Because because because

Give me one good reason why I should
Of course I know exactly why you would

You gotta take it easy
And stop putting up a fuss
Cause we don't wanna hear it
Because because because

I never had it in me
But even if it was
I ain't ever gonna tell you
Because because because

It shouldn't be too hard to figure out
You always seem to know what it's about
And I'm thinking fast to make it right
Because I'll see you later on tonight

Call me in the morning
You know everybody does
I'm not gonna be there
Because because because

I never had it in me
But even if it was
I ain't ever gonna tell you
Because because because

Because because because
Because because because

Overall Meaning

The song "Because" by Josh Freese is a complex reflection on interpersonal communication and the challenges that can arise in trying to convey one's feelings to others. The lyrics suggest that there are things that the singer is not willing to share with someone else, even if they might be important or significant. The repeated refrain of "because, because, because" emphasizes a sense of frustration or resignation, as if the singer feels trapped by their own reluctance or inability to express themselves fully.

The first verse sets the tone for the song, with the singer anticipating a conversation with someone else about a significant event that has taken place. However, they already know that they won't be able to fully engage with the conversation, simply because of their own internal barriers. This is reinforced in the second verse, where the singer insists that they will never reveal their thoughts or feelings, no matter how much they may want to.

The bridge of the song offers some clues as to what might be going on for the singer - "give me one good reason why I should / of course I know exactly why you would." It seems as though the singer is wrestling with issues of trust and vulnerability, and perhaps is fearful of being judged or rejected by the person they're speaking to. However, the sense of urgency in the final verse suggests that they are still grappling with these feelings and trying to figure out how to move forward.

You’re looking at the highest level of rock drumming right here.

Only a trained eye can really understand just how versatile & precise his playing is.

A comparison would be Danny Carey “Pneuma.” Watch the Vic Firth drum cam video on here & those double stroke rolls at the beginning that he converts to single strokes, and as smooth as butter.

That’s the type of versatility that Josh shows here on those varying snare notes.

Both are masters of being able to play softer/lighter notes between a heavy note & that might not sound difficult on paper but try it & you’ll see that even most pro drummers can’t play like that.

Josh doesn’t play polyrhythms like Danny but that’s never been his thing but Josh can sit down with any band and nail whatever they throw at him.

And in a studio setting, Josh will make every single band sound way, way better. The examples are literally in the thousands.

5,000 kids are going to learn to play drums because of this video.  10,000 parents are going to lose a lot of sleep.  You're the man, Freese.

His drumming isn't the only thing mind-blowing, but he's got a discography that most drummers would kill to have.
