I Saw You
Josh Kelley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I, I saw you
Couldn't think of what to say
So, I stumbled to the bar
And I just froze when I saw your face

I didn't know just what to day to you
And I didn't know just who to blame
But I didn't want to face the days alone
For the night I didn't get your name

So I, I tried slow
And whispered softly in your ear
Then I stumbled to your arms
To set the stage for what I feared

Fade into my life
Never getting it right

Risky fantasies
Made for what you see, inside

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Josh Kelley's song "I Saw You" express the nervousness and uncertainty that often come with the experience of meeting someone new. The singer notes that he didn't know what to say when he first saw the person whom he addresses in the lyrics. He was so overcome with hesitation that he stumbled to the bar and froze when he saw the other person's face. The singer doesn't explicitly state whether he is expressing a romantic interest in the other person, but the focus on feeling nervous and uncertain when meeting someone new suggests that this may be the case.

The next verse of the song sees the singer trying to overcome his feelings of hesitation by trying to "get it right". However, his attempts only make him feel clumsier and more self-conscious. He tries to break through the awkwardness by whispering softly in the other person's ear and taking a chance by stumbling into their arms. But even as he takes these risks, he knows that his fantasies are risky.

Overall, the lyrics of "I Saw You" suggest that the singer is struggling to connect with someone in a meaningful way. He doesn't know what to say or how to behave, and as a result, he feels awkward and self-conscious. While he tries to take risks to connect with the other person, he knows that these risks are not without their own risks.

The Prince & me!!!!

Kevin Thank you kindly for posting this. I remember seeing this in the Soundtrack channel back in 2006 . This song Always plays in my head. From Montreal Canada with love. (Katherine Heigl is one lucky woman to have Josh as a husband)

Finally someone posted this! Thank you so much! Remember this being played everyday at noon in the Soundtrack Channel. Like seriously, where was this music video all this time?

I remember the first few times I saw this. Having never watched the Prince and Me, I completely misinterpreted the video and thought it was about a love triangle between the guy and the two women with the blonde woman moving on happily in the end. Then I saw the movie and found out the blonde woman wasn’t in it.

I assume that the clips from the Prince and Me weren’t originally part of the music video. I wonder what this video is like without those clips and just what exactly is the story of blonde woman and why she is so happy at having torn apart that Hamlet book.

I was just thinking about this song and how they played it on the Family Channel during Fam Jam. I only remembered that he was singing in a library and pages were falling down around him and your video proved that I remembered correctly. THANK YOUUUU!!! ^_^
