Let You Go
Joshua Bassett Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Close the book before it turns to tragedy
Tear the treehouse down, give up the fantasy
Nothin' to regret since the day we met
Glad we took a chance makin' our own world
Perfectly imperfect like it had to be

Who thought that one first kiss
Would turn into two heartbreaks?
'Cause since we were young, I swore
I'd never walk away

I love you so much that I've gotta let you go
It couldn't last forever
And I hope you find better
I can't forget us, can't pretend we ain't broken
It was good together
Now I've gotta let you go

I'll always be in love with who we used to be
I'll save the photographs and keep the memories
The ribbon in your hair, the secrets that we shared
The way that you would stare at me across the room
We laughed until we cried, it feels like yesterday

Who thought that one first kiss
Would turn into two heartbreaks?
'Cause since we were young, I swore
That I'd never walk away

I love you so much that I've gotta let you go
It couldn't last forever
And I hope you find better
I can't forget us, can't pretend we ain't broken
It was good together
Now I've gotta let you go

I'm pickin' up pieces left and right
Now that our hearts are both untied
It'll take time, it'll take time
No one can say we didn't try
I'll think of these days all my life
It'll take time, it'll take time

I love you so much that I've gotta let you go
It couldn't last forever
And I hope you find better, yeah
I can't forget us, can't pretend we ain't broken

It was good together
Now I've gotta let you go

Overall Meaning

In Joshua Bassett's song "Let You Go," he sings about ending a relationship that has come to its natural end. The opening lyrics "Close the book before it turns to tragedy / Tear the treehouse down, give up the fantasy" speak to the idea of understanding when it's time to move on and end things before they become toxic and detrimental to both parties involved. Bassett reflects on the past and realizes that despite the love they shared, it couldn't last forever. He acknowledges that they were "Perfectly imperfect like it had to be" and shares that he'll always cherish the moments and memories they had together.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the bittersweet nature of the breakup. Bassett sings "I love you so much that I've gotta let you go / It couldn't last forever / And I hope you find better / I can't forget us, can't pretend we ain't broken / It was good together / Now I've gotta let you go." He acknowledges that despite the love and connection they shared, it's time to move forward and find something better for both of them.

The second verse speaks to the pain of realizing that a relationship that was once full of promise and hope has ended in heartbreak. Bassett reflects on the promises he made to never walk away from the relationship, but ultimately acknowledges that it's time to let go.

The final lines of the song are both hopeful and pensive. Bassett acknowledges that moving on will be difficult, but he believes that it's necessary. "I'm pickin' up pieces left and right / Now that our hearts are both untied / It'll take time, it'll take time." In the end, he'll always cherish the memories they shared, but it's time to move on and find something better for both of them.

I believe it can be both ways. She did and she didn’t have the feelings for Ricky like before.

Nini was hurt as u can tell in the treehouse scene. I think she just wanted to be distracted rather than being sad over a breakup bc in reality a break up deeply hurts and let’s not forget, she’s a teenager in hs still experiencing life. With spring break she was just finding “happy distractions” to not feel those things(alone, sad, etc).

BUT I also feel like maybe she did lose feelings by the scene where their at big reds pizza parlor. When she says she didn’t come back to east high FOR Ricky I believe the way she said all that was f*cked up but u could tell that he was ONE of the reasons she came back

But then the song “just for a moment” from season 1 she says “I fell in love with a boy but I can’t tell if I fell out” so maybe there’s little pieces of yes she did love Ricky and No she doesn’t.

(That’s what I believe :) )

Plus, I’n the last episode when Ricky and nini exchange letters she looks at him and says “just for a moment” and leaves the room
