Telling Myself
Joshua Bassett Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We were running 'round, running 'round like children
How did we allow, we allow this story
To fall so south?
What were we, what were we both thinkin'?
We were so naive, so naive believin'
We were still happy, still happy
I keep on tellin' myself we had somethin' good
Did we stay together longer than we should?
Were we just playing pretend because we could?
Was it really that good?
I keep on tellin' myself it's not what it was
Did we just want to believe that this was love?
Was it really worth the trouble that it caused?
Look where we ended up
I keep on tellin' myself
I keep on tellin' myself
I keep on tellin' myself
I keep on tellin' myself
Oh, don't pretend, don't pretend
You're all a sudden innocent, innocent, my darlin'
How could you forget, you forget
The first half of the story now?
I keep on tellin' myself we had somethin' good
Did we stay together longer than we should?
Were we just playing pretend because we could?
Was it really that good?
I keep on tellin' myself
And now that you're gone
I see it all clearly
And don't get me wrong
I wouldn't change a thing
I keep on tellin' my
I keep on tellin' myself we had somethin' good
Did we stay together longer than we should?
Were we just playing pretend because we could?
Was it really that good?
I keep on tellin' myself it's not what it was
Did we just want to believe that this was love?
Was it really worth the trouble that it caused?
Look where we ended up
I keep on tellin' myself
I keep on tellin' myself
I keep on tellin' myself
I keep on tellin' myself
In "Telling Myself," Joshua Bassett reflects on a relationship that didn't work out as he expected. The song begins with him remembering the early stages of the relationship, when things were simple and carefree. He questions how they allowed the story to fall apart, and admits that they were naive to think they could make it work. However, he also admits that he ignored his doubts and continued to tell himself that they had something good.
As the song progresses, Joshua questions whether they stayed together longer than they should have or if they were just playing pretend because they could. He wonders if the relationship was really worth the trouble it caused and reflects on where it ultimately ended up. The chorus repeats the line "I keep on tellin' myself" as Joshua struggles to come to terms with the reality of the situation.

abril curima
Beve Harrington
@Lucky fr like skin, because I liked a boy, crisis and set me free all seem to be directed to toxic fans who sent death threats not to the other people.
