Love Yourself
Joshua David Evans Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

For all the times that you've rained on my parade
and all the clubs you get in using my name
you think you broke my heart oh girl for goodness sake
you think im crying on my own, well i ain't
and i didn't wanna write a song
cause i didn't want anyone thinking i still care i dont but you still hit my phone up
and baby i be moving on
and i think you should be something i dont wanna hold back
baby you should know that
my mama dont like you
and she likes everyone
and i never liked to admit that i was wrong
i've been so caught with my job
didn't see what's going on but now i know
i'm better sleeping on my own
cause if you like the way you look that much
oh baby you should go and love yourself
and if you think that im still holding on to something you should go and love yourself
For all the times that you made me feel small
I fell in love. Now I feel nothin' at all
And never felt so low when I was vulnerable
Was I a fool to let you break down my walls?

my mama dont like you
and she likes everyone
and i never liked to admit that i was wrong
i've been so caught with my job
didn't see what's going on but now i know
i'm better sleeping on my own
cause if you like the way you look that much
oh baby you should go and love yourself
and if you think that im still holding on to something you should go and love yourself

'Cause if you like the way you look that much
Oh, baby, you should go and love yourself
And if you think (you think) that I'm (that I'm) still holdin' on (holdin' on) to somethin'

You should go and love yourself
mmmmmmm

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Joshua David Evans's song, Love Yourself, are about the complexities of a past relationship. The song speaks to the frustrations and emotions that can arise from a relationship that didn't work out. The chorus repeatedly emphasizes the message of self-love and moving on from the past.

The first verse is about the frustration and betrayal that can come from a partner who is not supportive, and instead uses your name and accomplishments for their own benefit. The singer, however, asserts that they have moved on and do not care anymore. They don't want to write a song that makes it seem like they still care, but the fact that their ex still messages them shows that they have not fully moved on.

The second verse is about the aftermath of the relationship, how the singer fell in love and now feels nothing at all. They question if they were foolish to let their walls down and allow themselves to be vulnerable. The chorus repeats and emphasizes the message of self-love and moving on, even if it means sleeping alone.

Overall, Love Yourself is a powerful song about letting go of a past relationship and embracing self-love. It's a reminder that sometimes we have to put our own well-being first, even if it means being alone.

I personally like his sound, it was stripped back and genuine.
I enjoy the simplicity of this version, I think it's a very sweet and calming sound.

Sometimes it's nice to hear something that's not overly chopped and edited, it's the real Josh we're hearing, not a majorly audio tuned mixed with electronic backing and beats.

That's just me and my opinion.

This sort of music (by anyone of the type not just Josh) is very helpful for my anxiety, it calms me down and brings me back to a level head.

You don't have to like the sound, that's fine, no one says you have too, just don't bring down someones passion because it's not your genre preference.

Josh, you did a really amazing job on this cover. Never forget you have thousands of people just like me who will support you and have your back. I love to see artists and creators really putting themselves out there. I think this cover is amazing, but what really gives this video its value is knowing how much creating content means to you. Love you ❤️
