Walk Through the Fire
Joss Whedon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Buffy)I touch the fire, and it freezes me
I look into it, and it's black
Why can't I feel?
My skin should crack and peel
I want the fire back
Now, through the smoke, she calls to me
To make my way across the flame
To save the day
Or maybe melt away
I guess it's all the same

So I will
Walk through the fire
'Cause where else can I turn?
I will
Walk through the fire
And let it...

(Spike)The torch I bear is scorching me
Buffy`s laughing, I've no doubt
I hope she fries,
I'm free if that bitch dies
I better help her out
'Cause she is
(Sweet)Drawn to the fire
Some people...
(Sweet)She will never learn
(Both) And she will
Walk through the fire
and let it...

(Giles)Will this do a thing to change her?
Am I leaving dawn in danger?
Is my slayer too far gone to care?
(Xander)What if Buffy can't defeat it?
(Anya)Beady eyes is right, we're needed
Or we could just sit around and glare
(All) We'll
See it through
It's what we're
Always here to do
so we will
Walk through the fire

(Buffy)So one by one, they turn from me
I guess my friends can't face the cold
What can't we face?
But while I froze,
Not one among them knows
And never can be told

(Anya & Xander)She came from the grave much graver
(Sweet)One by one, they come to me
(Spike)First, he`ll kill her, then I`ll save her
(Tara)Everything is turning out so dark
(Buffy)Going through the motions
(Spike)No, I`ll save her, then I`ll kill her
(Willow)I think this line is mostly filler
(Giles)What's it going to take to strike a spark?
(Sweet)It's what they have inside
She will come
(Buffy)These endless days
Are finally ending in a blaze
(All) And we are
Caught in the fire
The point of no return
So we will
Walk through the fire
And let it burn
Let it burn

Let it burn
And let it burn!

Jesus, you are right!! What a shit of video!!

Buffy: So, one by one, they turn from me. I guess my friends can't face the cold.
Tara: What can't we face...
Buffy: BUT WHY I FROZE NOT ONE AMONG THEM KNOWS...
Tara: ...if we're together?
Buffy: ...AND NEVER CAN BE TOLD.

The highlighted lines are the core of the problem.

By chance, those words are what made me come to rewatch this piece of art after many years.

In whole it is absurd to cut off a single part of the video.

“I hope she fries!! I'm free if that bitch dies!!! I better help her out...” is just immaculate lmaoo

@greensteve9307

Including the way he make his body look like he's being pulled like a puppet on a string.

@hakulives2613

Oh, Spike, you are so whipped for that girl.

@marcelparker6755

This pretty much explains the second half of season 5 in a nutshell! 😂😂😂

@animemanXLK

I almost forgot this was before Spike regained his soul. So you've got a monster trying to be a good man but the monster part just can't quite wrap their head around the whole being good thing.

@LucianDevine

@@animemanXLK That's why I still ship Spuffy. Spike tried so hard for Buffy, even before he fought to get his soul back. He wasn't just good once he got his soul back. He truly did want to be good enough for her, even though he knew it wasn't possible.

@xenbuff

This one along with the one Tara and Giles sing together are a Masterpiece. I mean, the whole episode is gold pero those two are just priceless.

Great

@maximusothunderman

I don’t know why but I love the part where Buffy’s “Going through the motions” line overlaps Tara’s “Everything is turning out so dark.” And the way Tara delivered that line was perfect.

Admit it: you rewatch this episode at least once a year despite knowing it line for line and having so many other TV shows on your watchlist.
