This was my wife’s favorite song. She said it was our song and it was. The night I proposed to her, at an Italian restaurant at dinner with friends. I had the manager play this for me over their audio system. In the middle of the song, the lights dimmed in the restaurant except the ones around our table. I stood up and got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said yes and all the patrons applauded us. We had a beautiful 16 years of love and life together. I’m so in love with her still today even. Sadly I lost her to a drunk driver accident in 2003 after 16 years of marriage. Still today when I hear this song it is a reminder of our love and the torture that she was taken from me so brutally. I love you, Paula. Now and forever.

This song will always play a special part in my life. I turned 21 on the day this came out on January 8th 1982. It was a day I will always cherish. In 12 days I turn 62 and continue to love this song and group like it was 1982. It will never be the same era as it was then, but to read so many of these posts and see so many young kids enjoying and appreciating this music, is AWESOME! I remember in 8th grade band, we played this song as a part of a medley for Journey we performed during our last concert of the year. I didn't have the best time in middle school, but good god I shared some moments with good people that I wouldn't trade for the world. Sometimes my bandmates and I hated each other, other times we were inseparable. When we finished our last concert together, we all gathered soon after, in the band hall still in our uniforms and cried our eyes out because we knew a lot of us were going to different high schools or were quitting band entirely and wouldn't see each other very much or not at all.

There were a lot of times, now that I sit behind my desk as a 24-year old teacher, that seemed like I could've done things differently. Regardless, the friends and connections I'd made with people I'll never forget, are things that I'll hold close to my heart. This song never fails to take me back to that moment where we all held each other feeling like the world was going to end. I remember holding one of my friends as she cried into my shoulder, but what's the most tragic is that we ended up going separate ways and it would've been immature of me to remind her of how we were in middle school because the reality is that people change.

This song reminds me of that fact of life. Things may change, but memories never do.
