Walks Like A Lady
Journey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Walks like a lady
With her tender charms
She moves like a lady
When I'm in her arms
She loves like a lady
Lovin' all night long
She cries like a baby
When she's done something wrong

I told you once, yes, I told you twice
But you never listen to my advice
I catch you walkin' with that boy again
I'm gonna set you free
Oh, I'm gonna set you free

Loves like a lady
So soft and slow
She feels like a lady
Ooo, I can't let go
She smiles like a lady
Smilin' all night long
But cries lake a baby
When she's done something wrong

Walks like a lady
Oh, but she cries like a little girl
Walks like a lady
Yes, but she cries like a little girl
Walks like a lady

Walks like a lady
Cries like a little girl

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Walks Like A Lady" by Journey describe a woman who moves, loves and feels like a lady, but also cries like a baby when she's done something wrong. The song's title is a metaphor - walking like a lady signifies the grace and poise that the woman exudes, which the singer finds irresistible. The song celebrates the beauty and sensuality of the woman, and the allure she has over the singer. However, the lyrics also hint at the possibility that she's not entirely faithful or trustworthy, as he catches her walking with another boy, despite his warning. The song ends with a repetition of the title line, reminding us of the two sides to this woman's character - her poised demeanor and her vulnerable side.

One possible interpretation of the song is that it's about a woman who is torn between her desires and her sense of responsibility. She is portrayed as an attractive and confident person who is hard to resist. However, she also has a vulnerable side, which makes her feel like a little girl when she's done something wrong. The singer seems to be conflicted about whether to free her or hold on to her, which adds to the tension of the song. The lyrics also suggest that the singer is not entirely sure of his own feelings - he's drawn to the woman but also wary of her.

This song popped into my mind watching my wife walking around in Costco on Friday. I think I have played it and sang it 100 times since then... and it's only Sunday. Fantastic song. So smooth and bluesy.

Thanks for posting this!  I've always loved this song.  One of Journey's more blues-y tunes.  Steve's vocals - and Neil's guitar licks - are amazing, and play off each other beautifully.  You can tell the whole band really "felt" the vibe.  Great performance.
