He released his first albums under the Jovanotti byname to later switch into his real name (Lorenzo), as of the mid-nineties.
Most of his output is hip-hop influenced, although not most of his work should be viewed as hip hop music per se. Many of his songs are not hip hop related and may probably be best viewed as part of the earlier Italian cantautore tradition. Some of his earlier work is also closer to keyboard-heavy 1980s pop. Most of his songs are sung in the Italian language; he also released a Spanish-language greatest hits album. His live album includes a short version of the Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight". Jovanotti appears on several international compilations, most notably Red Hot + Rhapsody, a 1998 tribute to George Gershwin, on which he performed "I Got Rhythm". Jovanotti has also appeared in one Luciano Pavarotti's charity concert in 1996.
His CD, Buon Sangue, includes influences from both rock and old school hip hop. It is one of his most innovative works to date. Edoardo Bennato collaborated on one track, while bass player Saturnino co-wrote two of the songs.
One of his most recent CDs, "Ora", breaks new ground with a new style of production.

Just, just, just, just, just walkin′
Just, just, just, just, just walkin'
Just, just, just, just, just walkin′
Just, just, just, just, just, my girl
Just, just, just
Just, just, just, just
Just, just, just
Walk, walk, walk
Pump up the volume
Pump up the volume
Pump up the volume
Pump up the volume
Pump up the volume
Dance, dance, dance, dance
Dance, dance, dance, dance
Walkin' down, walkin' down
Walkin′ down, walkin′ down
Well!
Walkin', I′m walkin' down
I′ve made a lotta people
Feel like havin' fun, oh yes
All together, c′mon get down
I wonder what's the way
To find a better place
Baby, take the step
Turnin' to the left
I can have a big fun when you′re movin′
Then I chase my mind
Turnin' to the right
We have to keep in touch
I′m lookin' for you baby, baby
Well, hi everybody
I wanna spend my time
I′m gonna turn you on
I'm gonna make you mine
My name is Joe, I rock the mike
So listen to the show
I′m gonna make you say
One for the treble, two for the bass
C'mon to me, let's rock this place
I wanna, I′m gonna turn on delight
So I can feel the heartbeat completely alright
Sit up party people, check out the beat
My microphone is the gun, my voice is the trigger
When you get up, make it lottie dottie
There are too many emcees and not enough mics
So listen close baby, don′t you miss
Here we go with a special sound like this
I'm the number one rapper, you′re the best deejay
Everybody's got to get down and do what we say
I′m a new John Taylor, I'm a Simon Le Bon
Everywhere I′m gonna emcee, I'm gonna turn you on
So c'mon party people in the house, say aw
Say one, two, three, four, come here right now
Get down to the beat y′all, ring ding ding
And clap your hands, let me see you jam
Get up and boogie
You never stop
C′mon party people
Gimme what you got
I'm a walkin′ emcee
I turn on the mike
Just walkin' down the left
Walkin′ down the right
That's my brand new record
The first I′ve done
Walk, walk, walk, walkin'
You get some fun
I hope you like it
I hope you dance
I hope the deejay will give me a last chance
Please Mr. deejay, put the record on
You gotta play it for my fans, you gotta turn 'em on
Walkin′, I′m walkin' down
Oh, have a good time baby
Walkin′, I'm walkin′ down
That's right!
The song "Walking" by Jovanotti is about the joy of walking and dancing through life. The song is an invitation to let loose and enjoy oneself while also searching for and embracing change. The lyrics "I wonder what's the way to find a better place, baby take the step" suggest that the act of walking is not only physical but also metaphorical, as it represents moving forward and seeking progress. The song also features a playful reference to hip hop culture with lines like "My microphone is the gun, my voice is the trigger" and "There are too many emcees and not enough mics".
The song is characterized by its upbeat tempo and catchy melody, which encourages people to dance and sing along. Its repetition of the word "walking" throughout the song adds to its hypnotic quality, making it an infectious and energizing tune. The song's use of electronic beats and synthesized sounds also reflects Jovanotti's interest in combining traditional Italian folk music with contemporary pop and dance music.

Assolo di pianoforte finale in puro stile Us piano house alla Marshall Jefferson in "Move your body". Tra i coordinatori musicali del progetto Claudio Donato, pezzo forte dell'italo disco.
