She's Lost Control
Joy Division Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Confusion in her eyes that says it all
She's lost control
And she's clinging to the nearest passerby
She's lost control
And she gave away the secrets of her past
And said, "I've lost control again"
And to the voice that told her when and where to act
She said, "I've lost control again"

And she turned around and took me by the hand
And said, "I've lost control again"
And how I'll never know just why or understand
She said, "I've lost control again"
And she screamed out, kicking on her side, and said
"I've lost control again"
And seized up on the floor, I thought she'd die
She said, "I've lost control"

She's lost control again
She's lost control
She's lost control again
She's lost control

That I had to phone her friend to state my case
And say she's lost control again
And she showed up all the errors and mistakes
And said, "I've lost control again"
And she expressed herself in many different ways
Until she lost control again
And walked upon the edge of no escape
And laughed, "I've lost control"

She's lost control again
She's lost control

She's lost control again
She's lost control

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Joy Division's song She's Lost Control are some of the most haunting and powerful in the band's catalog, exploring themes of mental illness and loss of control. The song's protagonist is clearly suffering, with confusion in her eyes as she clings to a passerby for support. The repetition of the phrase "She's lost control" drives home the intense feelings of helplessness and despair that the character is experiencing.

As the song progresses, the singer gives away the secrets of her past and acknowledges that she has lost control again, seemingly speaking to an internal voice that prompts her actions. The song reaches its climax with the character seizing up on the floor, with the singer fearing that she might die.

The lyrics to She's Lost Control are open to interpretation, but they likely reflect lead singer Ian Curtis' experiences with epilepsy and depression. Curtis himself suffered from both conditions, often experiencing seizures on stage and struggling with mood swings and suicidal thoughts. The song can be seen as a raw, unflinching portrayal of his personal struggles, as well as a wider exploration of the complex and often taboo issue of mental health.

I could live a little better with the myths and the lies
When the darkness broke in, I just broke down and cried
I could live a little in a wider line
When the change is gone, when the urge is gone
To lose control When here we come

Растерянность в её взгляде говорящая:
она утратила контроль
и цепляется за каждого встречного;

Perhaps their best song. Everything from the bassline to the drums to the creative and deep instrumentation as a whole and of course Ian's voice, lyrics and interpretation are perfect. The song is deep and moving at the same time and the whole package is amazing and unparalleled. What a glorious band Joy Division were indeed!

This video should be the official jawn. Loving how that wife is all like please don’t leave me to be a damsel in distress, all alone in this big ass house. And, the husband is all like babe, I gotta go be a savage, then promptly leaves her to her own devices.

@C345OFR

It's between this, Day Of The Lords and Transmission IMO

@thanos2101

@@C345OFR Both these and especially Transmission are also among my favourites! Insight and Candidate are also pretty high in my list and from one point onwards I really can't rank Joy Division's songs. They are all amazing!

@melrodas

I'm not a fan of the videos but at least it's giving JD more exposure. All of the songs are masterpieces and they should not fall into obscurity.

@plantain.1739

That in no way requires any of this.

@srujan00

Not masterpieces - simple rhythms, some of them catchy.

@solidifiedmilk571

@@srujan00 Musical technicality is not everything. I disagree with them being called simple rhythms, but more importantly, Joy Division made masterpieces because of the emotion that they put into their works.

@williampappas5712
