Fine Time
Joy Division CrimethInc/New Order Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're much too young
To be a part of me
Too young
To get a hold on me

You're much too young
You're much too young
You're much too young
To mess around with me

Hey
You know I've met a lot of cool chicks
But I've never met a girl with all her own teeth
That's why I love you babe
That's why we could be
But you're too young
Too young

The past doesn't matter
The past doesn't matter
The past doesn't matter
The past doesn't matter
The past doesn't matter
The past doesn't matter
The past doesn't matter
The past doesn't matter
The past doesn't matter
The past doesn't matter
The past doesn't matter
The past doesn't matter

Hey
Sophisticated lady
You know I've met a lot of cool chicks
But you've got style
You've got class

But most of all
You've got love technique

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Joy Division / New Order's song Fine Time seem to be about the singer's attraction towards someone who is much younger than them. The chorus of the song repeats the line "You're much too young" several times, emphasizing the age difference between the two. Despite this, the singer seems to be drawn to this person and finds them irresistible.

The opening lines of the song, "You're much too young to be a part of me, too young to get a hold on me" suggest that the singer sees the age difference as a barrier that should not be crossed. They are aware that the other person is too young for them and that any relationship between them is inappropriate. Despite this, there is a sense of longing in the words "to be a part of me" and "to get a hold on me", suggesting that the singer is struggling with their desire for this person and the societal norms that dictate their relationship is not acceptable.

The lyrics "The past doesn't matter" are repeated several times throughout the song and it seems to suggest that the singer is dismissing any judgments or opinions of others who might disapprove of the age difference. The line "You know I've met a lot of cool chicks, but I've never met a girl with all her own teeth" is a cheeky nod to the singer's past experiences with women, but the fact that they are willing to look beyond this and compliment the person they are singing about shows that they truly do care for them.

Overall, the song Fine Time is a poignant exploration of the complexities of relationships, desire and societal norms. The singer's struggle with their attraction to someone who is much younger than them is portrayed with heartfelt honesty and emotion.

@angelicdoll777

i don't really like cleaning my room that much...,but organizing books and rearranging decor? yes!
it's so cool to see how other people organize their space

@MlleReglisse

Omg, i'm so jealous ! I'm french and many of those books aren't translated in my language... yet ? I hope some small queer publishers will pick them up.

Luckily, i have a foreign languages bookshop in my town, so i can order some of them. :)

I bought a Emma Goldman book because of you. Thank you. ❤

@Delaneyisbraindead

This is encapsulating so many special interests of mine in one video 😍

Also every queer person should read Leslie Feinberg’s work (though I know at least Stone Butch Blues has a lot of hard to stomach topics such as hate crimes, SA/rape, police brutality, Transphobia/homophobia so if those topics are triggering maybe either don’t read that one or proceed with that in mind and give yourself breaks).

@mikey6724

yeah, especially the first 80-something pages of stone butch blues are really difficult to get through. but after that it's a lot less graphic. Still a very important book that most people should at least try to get through.

The way I have been waiting to see this video for years 😂 always wanted to see your bookshelf. Reading how Europe underdeveloped Africa for a book club right now.

@SwarmofBees-inatrenchcoat

I love this! I recently reirganized my bookshelf (partially) so now I have a whole shelf of leftist nonfiction in one place. I haven't read most of it but I'm looking forward to it
