Revival
Jr Ewing Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I danced with this frail tone
Sorry, i forgot...the dresscode
For a second
Your empty dream is a shallow one at its most
And you can dance this scene to hell
I used to feel an escape
But this punkrock image, it died within
And still you dream we're all alike
Your revival...your unfocused utopia
It should be dead by now
Your unity is a joke
And for every kid there's a laid-out path
And still this trend boils down to nothing
Absolutely nothing.
The lyrics to Jr Ewing's song "Revival" explore the themes of disillusionment and personal authenticity. The opening line, "I danced with words, I danced with this frail tone," suggests a sense of experimentation and playfulness with language, but also hints at a feeling of fragility or insecurity in the singer's voice or persona. The next line, "Sorry, I forgot...the dresscode," further emphasizes this feeling of being out of place or not conforming to expectations.
The chorus of the song challenges the idea of "revival" or a return to a nostalgic, utopian past. The singer asserts that "Your empty dream is a shallow one at its most" and that "Your unity is a joke," suggesting that the idea of a unified community based on shared values or aesthetics is ultimately hollow or misguided. Instead, the singer argues for individuality and authenticity, rejecting the "punkrock image" that they once clung to as a form of escape from the world.
