Garota de Ipanema

Tom Jobim
Olha que coisa mais linda
Mais cheia de graça
É ela menina
Que vem e que passa
No doce balanço, a caminho do mar
Moça do corpo dourado
The first verse introduces the "Garota de Ipanema," a girl from the neighborhood of Ipanema, in Rio de Janeiro. The song describes her as "the most beautiful thing" with an attitude full of grace. As she walks towards the sea, there is a sweet sway in her hips that is compared to a poem. The second verse notes that her body is golden from the sun of Ipanema, and her movements are not only poetic but something more significant than a work of art. Moving on, the song's tone becomes more melancholic as the singer confesses his loneliness in the midst of such beauty. The beauty is not only his but belongs to everyone, yet it also passes away, leaving only sadness behind. The song ends with a touch of hope, longing for her to know that her presence brings joy and makes the world a more beautiful place.
