0:34 He should have made it sound like he was talking about the house dying.

Decorate your house in green and red,
'cos soon it will be dead..

1:03 The same thing about God dying

So be sure on Christmas eve
When you snuggle into bed..
That you thank God for your family
'cos someday he'll be dead..

It's a seriously funny song. I never get tired of listening to it and it still manages to catch me off guard and make me laugh still. But also, it's a pretty good Christmas song. And it's not without a point either. It isn't mocking Christmas at all, it's actually encouraging you to embrace it, and it focuses entirely on the one great thing about Christmas, being with your family together. I think that's why it's an effective comedy song, because it has a few brutal universal truths that most Christmas songs just miss out.

I used to love this song because it was unexpected, twisted and it juxtaposed with Christmas and made me laugh. Now, after nearly everyone I have loved in life is dead, I love this song because it is honest and beautiful. "Thank God for your family cuz someday they'll be dead."

I know what you mean, as a kid you just thought it was funny because it was so horrible, breaking the illusion. But as you grow older and people you care about start disappearing you realize it is the truth.

I listen to this every year. There are no song made for Christmas that make me appreciate Christmas more than this one. It makes me value my life, my family, those alive and those who live in my memory.

I totally get that man. Is it sick that this puts me in the holiday spirit? This has been part of my Christmas tradition since I picked up the cd at my local record store. This, and Type O Negative's 'Red Water (Christmas Mourning)'

I'd be ok if this became part of the common repertoire of holiday songs.

David Dawson it already is...I've played this album for Christmas since it was first released...best carols EVER!!!😝🤣😂

That children's chorus is a nice touch. Gratitude for one another, reminder to enjoy the season, mention of Christmas - all the important elements of a holiday classic.
