The band's membership has seen much turnover, including a revolving cast of drummers in the 1970s and the departure of singer Rob Halford in 1992. Tim "Ripper" Owens, formerly of Winter's Bane, replaced Halford in 1996 and recorded two albums with Judas Priest, before Halford returned to the band in 2003. The current line-up consists of Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis. The band's best-selling album is 1982's Screaming for Vengeance, with their most commercially successful line-up featuring Ian Hill, Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, guitarist K. K. Downing, and drummer Dave Holland. Tipton and Hill are the only two members of the band to appear on every album.
Halford's operatic vocal style and the twin guitar sound of Downing and Tipton have been a major influence on heavy metal bands. Judas Priest's image of leather, spikes, and other taboo articles of clothing were widely influential during the glam metal era of the 1980s. The Guardian referred to British Steel as the record that defines heavy metal. Despite a decline in exposure during the mid-1990s, the band has once again seen a resurgence, including worldwide tours, being inaugural inductees into the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006, receiving a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2010, and having their songs featured in video games such as Guitar Hero and the Rock Band series. In 2022, Judas Priest were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Give it some stick
No nickle no dime
Gonna pile it on thick
Rattle your cage
Moving in fast
Don't take no lip
Bring it on, bring it on
Step out of the shadows
Bring it on, bring it on
Step out of the shadows
Don't cry me a river
Sink or swim
We're in this together
So get stuck in
Pedal to the metal
Rise or fall
Way to go now
Winner takes all
Bring it on, bring it on
Step out of the shadows
Bring it on, bring it on
Step out of the shadows
Take your shot
You think you're big enough
You're gonna bite the dust
Give it all you got
You think you're tough enough
Come on bring it on
Bring it on
Step out of the shadows
Bring it on
Step out of the shadows
Bring it on, bring it on
Step out of the shadows
Bring it on, bring it on
Step out of the shadows
Bring it on, bring it on
Step out of the shadows
Out of the shadows
Bring it on, bring it on
Step out of the shadows
Out of the shadows
“Bring It On” by Judas Priest is a song about summoning courage and facing challenges head-on, as there’s nothing to lose in the end. The band’s impeccable energy is present from the get-go, as they urge listeners to lay it all on the line, give it some stick, and lose the fear of failure, no matter what obstacles appear on the path. They mention not asking for change or favors, as what they’re after is something worth risking everything.
The second verse highlights the importance of never taking lip from anyone or letting anyone get in the way of achieving goals, freeing from the phantom of doubts and anxieties that can wear anyone down. The chorus repeats, bringing a sense of determination and anticipation, and despite sounding confrontational or aggressive, it has more motivational layers than combative ones. The bridge then brings a reminder of how this is a team effort, and that everyone involved is in this together, no matter if they rise or fall.
The song's chorus encourages listeners to step out of the shadows and take on any challenge that comes their way with bravery and determination. It is a call to action, urging people to be bold and take risks.
