The band's membership has seen much turnover, including a revolving cast of drummers in the 1970s and the departure of singer Rob Halford in 1992. Tim "Ripper" Owens, formerly of Winter's Bane, replaced Halford in 1996 and recorded two albums with Judas Priest, before Halford returned to the band in 2003. The current line-up consists of Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis. The band's best-selling album is 1982's Screaming for Vengeance, with their most commercially successful line-up featuring Ian Hill, Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, guitarist K. K. Downing, and drummer Dave Holland. Tipton and Hill are the only two members of the band to appear on every album.
Halford's operatic vocal style and the twin guitar sound of Downing and Tipton have been a major influence on heavy metal bands. Judas Priest's image of leather, spikes, and other taboo articles of clothing were widely influential during the glam metal era of the 1980s. The Guardian referred to British Steel as the record that defines heavy metal. Despite a decline in exposure during the mid-1990s, the band has once again seen a resurgence, including worldwide tours, being inaugural inductees into the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006, receiving a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2010, and having their songs featured in video games such as Guitar Hero and the Rock Band series. In 2022, Judas Priest were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Children of the Sun
Judas Priest Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Worlds in her disguise
Pray for all that matters
Saviour in my eyes
Children of the sun
Dying one by one
Deadly poison fills the air
Kneel down in forgiveness
While there's still time if you care
Children of the sun
Dying one by one
Children of the sun
Dying one by one
I couldn't dream
To be without her kind
They wouldn't let her be
Or heal what she defiled
You are the hate that beats mankind
Torturous lies that lead the blind
Squandered the truth from all we said
You are the reason I feel dead
Mountains start to crumble
Tumble in the sea
Children of the sun
Dying one by one
Children of the sun
Dying one by one
Children of the sun
Dying one by one
Children of the sun
Dying one by one
The lyrics to Judas Priest's song "Children of the Sun" speak to the destruction of our planet and the harm that humans have caused. The first verse talks about how the world is in disguise, referring to the false appearance we give off to hide the true damage we've done. The singer then suggests that we pray for all that matters, implying that the only thing we can do now is ask for forgiveness for the harm we've caused. The singer sees a savior in their own eyes, perhaps implying that they have recognized the damage humans have caused and seek to make amends.
The chorus of the song reiterates the title, "Children of the Sun," which can be interpreted as humans. The line "Dying one by one" suggests that the singer sees the damage being done to our planet as gradual but inevitable, and that we are all suffering the consequences of our actions. The second verse paints a picture of how Eden (referring to the Garden of Eden in the Bible) has been wasted, and deadly poison now fills the air. The singer suggests that we kneel down in forgiveness while there's still time if we care, hinting that we still have a chance to make things right.
The third verse is more personal, with the singer expressing their love for something they can't live without. They blame those who are hate-filled and lead the blind with their lies for the destruction and harm caused. The final lines of the song talk about mountains starting to crumble and tumble into the sea, perhaps painting a picture of the end of the world as we know it.
Overall, "Children of the Sun" is a warning against the damage humans have caused to our planet and a call to action to do better before it's too late.

The production on Redeemer of Souls was trash, but the songs are amazing! This song, Sword of Damocles, Necromancer, Dragonaut for example are heavy metal masterpieces!

I’m loving this metal. Throughout all the hardships, the band produces solid tempered metal.
