The band's membership has seen much turnover, including a revolving cast of drummers in the 1970s and the departure of singer Rob Halford in 1992. Tim "Ripper" Owens, formerly of Winter's Bane, replaced Halford in 1996 and recorded two albums with Judas Priest, before Halford returned to the band in 2003. The current line-up consists of Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis. The band's best-selling album is 1982's Screaming for Vengeance, with their most commercially successful line-up featuring Ian Hill, Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, guitarist K. K. Downing, and drummer Dave Holland. Tipton and Hill are the only two members of the band to appear on every album.
Halford's operatic vocal style and the twin guitar sound of Downing and Tipton have been a major influence on heavy metal bands. Judas Priest's image of leather, spikes, and other taboo articles of clothing were widely influential during the glam metal era of the 1980s. The Guardian referred to British Steel as the record that defines heavy metal. Despite a decline in exposure during the mid-1990s, the band has once again seen a resurgence, including worldwide tours, being inaugural inductees into the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006, receiving a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2010, and having their songs featured in video games such as Guitar Hero and the Rock Band series. In 2022, Judas Priest were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Judas Priest Lyrics

I used to stay at home
Lost in seclusion there
Like I was in a cell
A captured heart as well
Surrounded by despair
Darkness filled my soul
Losing all control
Down on the streets below
Bright city lights would glow
The energy would rise
And through the heat I'd gaze
Still counting empty days
With fire in my eyes
Living through this hell
Can I break this spell?
(Fever) you set my soul on fire
(Fever) you fill me with desire
(Fever) you always get it right
(Fever) all day and all night
Then one night as I walked
I heard your body talk
I saw a shooting star
In some magnetic trance
Our beating hearts would dance
And crash down from afar
Oh, how strange fate is
Never dreamed of this
(Fever) you set my soul on fire
(Fever) you fill me with desire
(Fever) you always get it right
(Fever) all day and all night
So destiny has bought us
Oh, so close together
We were like angels in the night
Living the dream
At last I'll be with you forever
And all at once it feels so right
(Fever) you set my soul on fire
(Fever) you fill me with desire
(Fever) you always get it right
(Fever) all day and all night
(Fever) oh, you set my soul on fire
(Fever) you fill me with desire
(Fever) you always get it right
(Fever) all day and all night
The lyrics of Judas Priest's song Fever depict a person who used to be alone and trapped in their own world of seclusion, feeling like they were in a cell. The darkness consumed their soul and they were losing control. However, they would see the bright lights of the city below and feel the energy rising, yet they still felt empty inside. They were living through a personal hell and were desperate to break the spell they were under.
But one night, while walking, they heard the body of the person they were longing for talk to them and saw a shooting star in the sky. They both became transfixed by each other and their beating hearts danced together, crashing down from afar. The person was amazed at how strange fate was as they never dreamed they would be together, but feverishly, they knew destiny brought them together.
In the end, the person is grateful for their fate for bringing them together and feels like they are living a dream. They are thrilled to finally be with the person they longed for, and it feels right. The song Fever seeks to portray the feelings of two people who have finally found each other and how their connection is fiery.

I'd spend my days alone
I used to spend my days by myself
I used to stay at home
I didn't go out often
Lost in seclusion there
I felt alone and cut off from the world
Like I was in a cell
I felt trapped and confined
A captured heart as well
My emotions were also restricted and trapped
Surrounded by despair
I was consumed by feelings of hopelessness and sadness
Darkness filled my soul
I felt overwhelmed by negativity and darkness
Losing all control
I felt like I had no power over my life
Down on the streets below
Outside, in the city
Bright city lights would glow
The lights of the city were bright
The energy would rise
The atmosphere was intense and lively
And through the heat I'd gaze
I would look out into the city, even in the heat
Still counting empty days
I was still feeling unfulfilled and empty inside
With fire in my eyes
Despite feeling lost, I still had passion and energy in me
Living through this hell
Life felt like a terrible experience
Can I break this spell
I wondered if I could escape my feeling of being trapped
Fever. You set my soul on fire
Meeting this person changed my life and gave me a new sense of passion
Fever. You fill me with desire
Their presence made me feel alive with desire
Fever. You always get it right
With them, everything felt like it was falling into place
Fever. All day and all night
I was consumed by this newfound passion for them, day and night
Then one night as I walked
One night, when I was out walking
I heard your body talk
I felt a strong connection with them and could sense their energy
I saw a shooting star
I saw a sign that things were changing for the better
In some magnetic trance
We were drawn to each other, as if by magnetic force
Our beating hearts would dance
Our hearts were full of excitement and joy
And crash down from afar
We felt like we had been brought together by a cosmic force
Oh how strange fate is
It felt like destiny had brought us together
Never dreamed of this
I never could have imagined finding someone like them
So destiny has bought us
It felt like everything had happened for a reason
Oh so close together
We were deeply connected to each other
We were like angels in the night
Our connection felt otherworldly, like we were a gift from heaven
Living the dream
Being with them felt like a dream come true
At last I'll be with you forever
I felt like being with them was where I was always meant to be
And all at once it feels so right
Everything fell into place and felt perfect

Right you are!
@anthonywindel8116
As a guitar player that loves playing this song daily I totally agree. In my humble opinion the best metal power ballad they play.
@Estmaraver
Arguably one of their best ballads, if not one of the best in metal. The lyrics are poignant, the vocals are intense and the guitar solos clean.
