The band's membership has seen much turnover, including a revolving cast of drummers in the 1970s and the departure of singer Rob Halford in 1992. Tim "Ripper" Owens, formerly of Winter's Bane, replaced Halford in 1996 and recorded two albums with Judas Priest, before Halford returned to the band in 2003. The current line-up consists of Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis. The band's best-selling album is 1982's Screaming for Vengeance, with their most commercially successful line-up featuring Ian Hill, Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, guitarist K. K. Downing, and drummer Dave Holland. Tipton and Hill are the only two members of the band to appear on every album.
Halford's operatic vocal style and the twin guitar sound of Downing and Tipton have been a major influence on heavy metal bands. Judas Priest's image of leather, spikes, and other taboo articles of clothing were widely influential during the glam metal era of the 1980s. The Guardian referred to British Steel as the record that defines heavy metal. Despite a decline in exposure during the mid-1990s, the band has once again seen a resurgence, including worldwide tours, being inaugural inductees into the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006, receiving a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2010, and having their songs featured in video games such as Guitar Hero and the Rock Band series. In 2022, Judas Priest were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Peace
Judas Priest Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Search the past to times of wonder
Never growing old
Once we have peace
Such peace
Seasons come and go
Every man's a child to someone
Love and you'll live
Forgive
Conquest, transgress
Purgatory
Lift us onward
Trust in glory
The song "Peace" by Judas Priest is a contemplative reflection on the power of memories, love, and forgiveness to bring peace both to an individual and to the world. The opening lines of the song encourage us to look back on our past experiences with a sense of wonder and to remember the moments of peace and contentment that we have experienced despite the passing of time. The song goes on to suggest that the love and forgiveness that we cultivate throughout our lives is what will ultimately allow us to live in peace and harmony with one another.
The lyrics of "Peace" are imbued with a sense of spirituality and hopefulness, as the singer sings of the importance of trusting in glory and moving ever onward towards a brighter future. The lines "Conquest, transgress / Purgatory / Lift us onward / Trust in glory" suggest that even when we face challenges and difficult moments in our lives, we can keep moving forward and trust in the power of love and forgiveness to bring us peace and contentment.
Overall, "Peace" is a powerful reminder of the importance of cultivating inner peace and finding ways to connect with those around us in meaningful, positive ways. It urges us to look to the past to find inspiration for our future and to focus on the power of love and forgiveness in bringing us closer to a world filled with peace and harmony.
