More Than I Wanted
Jude Lyrics

That was all I heard when you spoke to me
I ... I ... I want you
You asked me if I knew what a nipple was for
Put me on the floor and then rape me to explore
And I ... I laugh at you
I found much more than I gave
The lives we live in are too complex for words
And yet we are turds of great colossal birds
In the sky
Way up high
Cock-a-doodle-do
I found much more than I wanted
I got much more than I gave
Mary had a little boy and a little lamb
Who am ... I ... am ... and ... are you?
I got much more than I wanted
I got much more than I gave
Jude's song "More Than I Wanted" is a complex piece that requires a lot of interpretation to fully understand. The opening lines talk about the empty slap of words, suggesting that the communication between the two parties is meaningless, lacking substance or content. However, this is followed up by expressing the desire for the other person, which suggests that there is a deeper emotional connection despite the lack of meaningful communication.
The second stanza is much more graphic, with the singer being asked about the purpose of the nipple before being physically violated. However, this is treated with laughter by the singer, which is a disturbing contrast to the violence of the act. The following lines then use vivid, bizarre imagery like "turd of great colossal birds" and "cock-a-doodle-do," which serve to further emphasize the singer's feelings of confusion, disorientation, and possibly even dissociation in the face of what has occurred.
The final stanza brings up Mary and her little boy and lamb, which could be seen as a reference to the biblical tale of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. Here, the singer seems to be grappling with the concept of identity and what it means to exist. The final lines once again point to the idea that the singer has been given much more than he or she has given, suggesting a sense of imbalance or inequality in the relationship.

@CrybabyJosh: Beautifully done!! Almost EXACTLY the way Jude sings it! :) P.S. it's actually one of my favorite Jude songs, haha! @SistersGoldenHair: Jude definitely deserved more exposure (and still does), because all his talent is truly from his heart, but maybe in some ways it's better he stays just a little under the radar so no major powers-that-be mess with his creative soul like they tried to back in 2001. :)
