Magnetic
Judith Edelman Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Of your sweet magnetic pull
It's the tug that I crave
It's how opposites behave
Is electricity all there is to you and me?
In the field, in the field
Where the static is revealed
If the north isn't true
Is electricity all there is to you and me?
Chorus:
What's gonna happen when the magnetism fades?
Will we burn up one bright day?
Will the aurora borealis give us one last show?
You can't leave love to science when you go.
There is a deep molten heart
Where these strange attractions start
If we are passionate
Will this rock remember it?
Is electricity all there is to you and me?
The song "Magnetic" by Judith Edelman is about the inexplicable pull and attraction that two individuals feel towards each other. The lyrics depict this attraction as being a magnetic pull, something that is both powerful and unexplainable. Throughout the song, the singer questions if this pull can be explained by science, if it is simply based on electricity or if there is something deeper at play. The chorus focuses on the fear of what will happen when this magnetism fades, wondering if it will burn out or if there will be one last show before it disappears.
Interestingly, the song also touches on the idea of memory and how the passion between two individuals can be remembered even after the attraction fades away. This suggests that there may be something more profound and enduring to this connection than just physical attraction. The lyrics also suggest that this attraction may not necessarily be healthy or wise, questioning the grip it has over the individuals involved.
Overall, "Magnetic" is a lyrical exploration of attraction and the fear of losing it, touching on some of the deeper complexities that come with love and relationships.

Thanks for uploading! This song is brilliant. Judith Edelmen and "Magnetic" are to magnetism what "Vincent" (Don McLean - Starry, Starry Night.) is to Vincent van Gogh: the beautiful lyrical imagery is all drawn directly, specifically from the phenomenon that inspires the song. It's impeccable use of the literal to conjure the figurative.
