After appearing in Vaudeville theater with her sisters, Judy was signed to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as a teenager. There she made more than two dozen films, including nine with Mickey Rooney, and the film with which she would be most identified, "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). After 15 years, Judy was released from the studio but gained renewed success through record-breaking concert appearances, including a critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall concert, a well-regarded but short-lived television series, and a return to film acting beginning with "A Star Is Born" (1954).
Despite her professional triumphs, Judy battled personal problems throughout her life. Insecure about her appearance, her feelings were compounded by film executives who told her she was unattractive and overweight. Plied with drugs to control her weight and increase her productivity, Garland endured a decades-long struggle with addiction. Garland was plagued by financial instability, often owing hundreds of thousands of dollars in back taxes, and her first four of five marriages ended in divorce. She attempted suicide on a number of occasions. Garland died of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 47, leaving children Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft, and Joey Luft.
Legacy
Judy Garland's legacy as a performer and a personality has endured long after her death. The American Film Institute named Garland eighth among the "Greatest Female Stars of All Time". She has been the subject of over two dozen biographies since her death, including the well-received "Me and My Shadows: A Family Memoir" by her daughter, Lorna Luft. Luft's memoir was later adapted into the multiple award-winning television mini-series, "Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows", which won Emmy Awards for two actresses portraying Garland (Tammy Blanchard and Judy Davis).
Garland was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. Several of her recordings have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. These include "Over the Rainbow," which was ranked as the number one movie song of all time in the American Film Institute's "100 Years...100 Songs" list. Four more Garland songs are featured on the list: "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" (#76), "Get Happy" (#61), "The Trolley Song" (#26), and "The Man That Got Away" (#11).
Judy Garland has twice been honored on U.S. postage stamps, in 1989 (as Dorothy) and again in 2006 (as Vicki Lester from A Star Is Born).
Come Rain or Come Shine
Judy Garland Lyrics

Come rain or come shine.
High as a mountain and deep as a river,
Come rain or come shine.
I guess when you met me
It was just one of those things,
But don't ever bet me,
You're gonna love me like nobody's loved me,
Come rain or come shine.
Happy together, unhappy together
And won't it be fine.
Days may be cloudy or sunny,
We're in or we're out of the money,
But I'm with you always,
I'm with you rain or shine.
The song is all about the enduring love between two people, no matter what challenges or obstacles they face. The lyrics speak of a deep, unshakeable commitment to the other person, promising to love them "like nobody's loved you" through thick and thin, "come rain or come shine." These phrases are used as metaphors, with "high as a mountain" representing the heights of love, and "deep as a river" representing its depths.
The singer goes on to reflect on the chance nature of meeting someone, stating that "It was just one of those things." However, they are resolute in their dedication, claiming they will "be true if you let me." The second verse is sung from the other person's perspective, with the singer asserting that they will love them just as strongly in return. The two seem to acknowledge that there may be tough times ahead, but they will weather them together, happy or unhappy, because their love is deep and true.
Overall, the song is a beautiful testament to the power of love and commitment that comes from a deep and abiding connection between two people.

These shows were as "real" as it gets. My father was the arranger, composer, and conductor for these shows as well as the Carnegie Hall concert. My mother was Judy's stand in for rehearsing the orchestra. As big a star as Judy was, I still recall how down to earth she was with people. Backstage she would babysit me, and even took the time to teach me how to speak french.

Trevor thanks for sharing your experience with two tremendous talents, your father did wonders showcasing what I have always considered the greatest singer ever, you must have stories about being on the set of the brilliant "The Judy Garland Show" where much of the finest singing ever is contained within those incredible shows, love the concert episodes and what a great arrangement Mort did here, nobody ever came close to their "Come Rain Or Come Shine"!

Just look at the shear determination in her face at 3:05 She was channeling something deep, very deep to be able to finish the song as she did. I absolutely love the look of shock in her face as she says "oh my goodness" as if she were watching it, in awe, along with us. Never has there been anyone better and there never will.

In the words of Frank Sinatra: "She will have a mystic survival. She was the greatest. The rest of us will be forgotten - never Judy." I agree 200 pct. A musical genius and beyond, I might add.. A gift sent from above to spread a little love among Us. She remains an original and unsurpassed in my opinion.
