After appearing in Vaudeville theater with her sisters, Judy was signed to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as a teenager. There she made more than two dozen films, including nine with Mickey Rooney, and the film with which she would be most identified, "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). After 15 years, Judy was released from the studio but gained renewed success through record-breaking concert appearances, including a critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall concert, a well-regarded but short-lived television series, and a return to film acting beginning with "A Star Is Born" (1954).
Despite her professional triumphs, Judy battled personal problems throughout her life. Insecure about her appearance, her feelings were compounded by film executives who told her she was unattractive and overweight. Plied with drugs to control her weight and increase her productivity, Garland endured a decades-long struggle with addiction. Garland was plagued by financial instability, often owing hundreds of thousands of dollars in back taxes, and her first four of five marriages ended in divorce. She attempted suicide on a number of occasions. Garland died of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 47, leaving children Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft, and Joey Luft.
Legacy
Judy Garland's legacy as a performer and a personality has endured long after her death. The American Film Institute named Garland eighth among the "Greatest Female Stars of All Time". She has been the subject of over two dozen biographies since her death, including the well-received "Me and My Shadows: A Family Memoir" by her daughter, Lorna Luft. Luft's memoir was later adapted into the multiple award-winning television mini-series, "Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows", which won Emmy Awards for two actresses portraying Garland (Tammy Blanchard and Judy Davis).
Garland was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. Several of her recordings have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. These include "Over the Rainbow," which was ranked as the number one movie song of all time in the American Film Institute's "100 Years...100 Songs" list. Four more Garland songs are featured on the list: "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" (#76), "Get Happy" (#61), "The Trolley Song" (#26), and "The Man That Got Away" (#11).
Judy Garland has twice been honored on U.S. postage stamps, in 1989 (as Dorothy) and again in 2006 (as Vicki Lester from A Star Is Born).

I won't dance, don't ask me
I won't dance madame with you
My heart won't let me feet do things that they should do
You know what, you're lovely
You know what, you're so lovely
And you know what you do to me
I feel so absolutely stumped on the floor
When you dance, you're charming and you're gentle
Specially when you do The Continental
But this feeling isn't purely mental
For heaven rest us, I'm not asbestos
And that's why
I won't dance, why should I?
I won't dance, how could I?
I won't dance, merci beaucoup
I know that music lead the way to romance
So if I hold you in arms I won't dance
The lyrics to the song "I Won't Dance" by Judy Garland are about a person who is refusing to dance with someone who they find attractive because they can't control their feelings for the person. The person is aware of how lovely their dance partner is, and how they make them feel like they have been knocked off their feet. The person describes their dance partner as charming and gentle, especially when they dance The Continental. However, the person feels like they are not able to control their feelings when they are around their dance partner, and they are trying to prevent themselves from getting too close by avoiding dancing with them.
The lyrics, "My heart won't let my feet do things that they should do", indicate that the person's emotions are conflicting with their actions. They want to dance with their partner, but they are afraid of what might happen if they do. The phrase, "For heaven rest us, I'm not asbestos", refers to the person's fear of getting too close and getting hurt.
Overall, the lyrics to "I Won't Dance" capture the struggle with romantic attraction and the fear of losing control. The song is a melancholic reflection on the difficulty of navigating romantic relationships and the confusion that can arise.

Days can be sunny, with never a sigh
Don't need what money can buy
Birds in the trees sing their day full of song
Why shouldn't we sing along?
I'm chipper all the day, happy with my lot
How do I get that way? Look at what I've got
I got rhythm, I got music
I got my man
Who could ask for anything more?
I got daisies, in green pastures
I got my man
Who could ask for anything more?
Old man trouble
I don't mind him
You won't find him 'round my door
I got starlight
I got sweet dreams
I got my man
Who could ask for anything more ?
Old man trouble
I don't mind him
You won't find him, 'round my door
I got starlight
I got sweet dreams
I got my man
Who could ask for anything more ?
I got rhythm, I got music
I got daisies, in green pastures
I got starlight
I got sweet dreams
I got my man
Who could ask for anything more ?

I like listening to this song while dancing at the hospital.
@joeygamache525
True, I was there banging my bedpan to the melody
@JarethTheGoblinKingForever
And the rubber enema bulbs make excellent noise for the wind section if you're in a hospital. As for that piano/xylophone riff though, you need a good old-fashioned glass urine sample jar set for that. Not every hospital has the privilege of such beauty.
