A slow but melodic sound that ends up soaring . I recommend this for any Judy fan .
That's All
Judy Garland Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And the promise to be near each time you call
And the only heart I own for you and you alone
That's all, that's all
I can only give you country walks in springtime
And a hand to hold when leaves begin to fall
And a love whose burning light
That's all, that's all
There are those, I am sure, who have told you
They would give you the world for a toy
All I have are these arms to enfold you
And the love time can never destroy
If you're wondering what I'm asking in return, dear
You'll be glad to know that my demands are small
Say it's me that you adore, for now and evermore
That's all, that's all
"That's All" is a touching love song by Judy Garland. In this song, the singer expresses her deep love and devotion for her lover. She acknowledges that she may not have much to offer materially, but what she can offer is eternal and true. The singer promises to always be there for her lover, to offer comfort and support, and to love him unconditionally. The lyrics reveal a sense of vulnerability and honesty, as well as a deep commitment to the relationship.
The first verse states that the singer can only offer love that endures. She promises to always be there for her lover, no matter what. This is a simple yet powerful declaration of love, as it shows that the singer is willing to put her all into the relationship. The second verse takes a more romantic turn, offering the image of walks in the countryside and holding hands during autumn. The image of a "burning light" that warms the winter night is particularly evocative, suggesting that the singer's love is powerful and all-encompassing.
The final verse asks for very little in return; the only thing the singer desires is to be loved by her partner for all time. This implies a sense of trust and devotion that is rare in today's world. It also highlights the fact that material possessions mean very little in the face of true love.

You know, PBS would be doing the public a great service if they repeated this series on Saturday evenings (like Mr. Welk). My parents were riveted to the sofa whenever Miss Garland was on TV, especially this '63-'64 series. Sid Luft had the tapes carefully stored and remastered...they're ready to dub to digital and air! I still tear up whenever I hear most versions of the song-the lyrics get to me each and every time.

As great as Judy's deeply emotive vocalizing was, as of this song, on YouTube see Dorothy Dandridge's parallel sui generis lovely cover of "That's All."

Yes it's like you can't teach this quality. I've often wondered if she ever had a singing lesson cause it's like she was just born with it.

Judy almost blew the 1st line of the last verse and it's obvious she was reading the lyrics from cue-cards. But, I don't think I've ever heard it sung better. Ms Garland was truly amazing.
