After appearing in Vaudeville theater with her sisters, Judy was signed to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as a teenager. There she made more than two dozen films, including nine with Mickey Rooney, and the film with which she would be most identified, "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). After 15 years, Judy was released from the studio but gained renewed success through record-breaking concert appearances, including a critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall concert, a well-regarded but short-lived television series, and a return to film acting beginning with "A Star Is Born" (1954).
Despite her professional triumphs, Judy battled personal problems throughout her life. Insecure about her appearance, her feelings were compounded by film executives who told her she was unattractive and overweight. Plied with drugs to control her weight and increase her productivity, Garland endured a decades-long struggle with addiction. Garland was plagued by financial instability, often owing hundreds of thousands of dollars in back taxes, and her first four of five marriages ended in divorce. She attempted suicide on a number of occasions. Garland died of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 47, leaving children Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft, and Joey Luft.
Legacy
Judy Garland's legacy as a performer and a personality has endured long after her death. The American Film Institute named Garland eighth among the "Greatest Female Stars of All Time". She has been the subject of over two dozen biographies since her death, including the well-received "Me and My Shadows: A Family Memoir" by her daughter, Lorna Luft. Luft's memoir was later adapted into the multiple award-winning television mini-series, "Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows", which won Emmy Awards for two actresses portraying Garland (Tammy Blanchard and Judy Davis).
Garland was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. Several of her recordings have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. These include "Over the Rainbow," which was ranked as the number one movie song of all time in the American Film Institute's "100 Years...100 Songs" list. Four more Garland songs are featured on the list: "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" (#76), "Get Happy" (#61), "The Trolley Song" (#26), and "The Man That Got Away" (#11).
Judy Garland has twice been honored on U.S. postage stamps, in 1989 (as Dorothy) and again in 2006 (as Vicki Lester from A Star Is Born).
When the Sun Comes Out
Judy Garland Lyrics

And the rain stops beating on my window pane
When the sun comes out
There'll be blue birds 'round my door
Singing like they did before
That old storm broke out
And my man walked off
Left me in the rain
If he'll stay away for good
I'd stop living if he should
Love is funny,
It's not always peaches, cream and honey
Just when everything seemed bright and sunny
Suddenly the cyclone came
It'll never be the same
Till that sun comes out
And the rain stops beating on my window pane
If my heart holds out
Let it rain, let it pour
It may not belong before
There's a knocking at my door
Then you'll know the one I love walked in
When the sun comes out...
And the rain stops beating on my window pane
If my heart holds out
Let it rain, let it pour
It may not belong before
There's a knocking at my door
Then you'll know the one I love walked in
When the sun comes out...
"When The Sun Comes Out" is a song that reflects on the idea that after a storm or difficult situation, the sun will eventually come out and things will get better. The lyrics express the hope that when the sun comes out, everything will be like it was before the storm, with blue birds singing and the promise of love being reunited. The song also acknowledges that love can be unpredictable and tumultuous, and that storms like cyclones can break out suddenly, causing chaos and disturbance.
The first verse describes the rain beating on the singer's window pane and the hope that the sun will come out soon. The chorus repeats this idea, adding that, when the sun does come out, there will be blue birds singing and the potential for the return of the one the singer loves. The second verse expresses doubt that the loved one will stay away for good, and the idea that life would not be worth living if they did.
The third verse acknowledges the ups and downs of love, that it's not always easy and can be full of unexpected twists and turns. The lyric relates how everything seemed bright and sunny until the unexpected cyclone came, which means that things will never return to what they were until the sun comes out. The final chorus is a repeat of the first, with the included promise that the one the singer loves will return.
Overall, "When The Sun Comes Out" is a hopeful song that acknowledges the difficulties of love and relationships. It's a song that encourages listeners to keep faith that things will improve, that the sun will come out, and that love will return.

When things get better
And the rain stops beating on my window pane

That old storm broke out
That terrible thing happened
And my man walked off
And he left me
Left me in the rain
Left me alone and sad
Though he's gone I doubt
I don't believe he's really gone
If he'll stay away for good
If he'll never come back
I'd stop living if he should
I'd be devastated if he never returned
Love is funny,
Love is strange
It's not always peaches, cream and honey

Judy was GREAT, and Barbra is GREAT! Both had/have their own STYLE of SINGING! Singers should NOT want to COPY other Singers! The FACT that these two ICONS were able to do a DUET together, was GENIUS, and will LIVE on FOREVER!
@01dazolympia
She is one of the few entertainers that you just can't take your eyes off. She is completely captivating and that is all before the voice and the performance
@SaxonC
I totally agree! I always said that I felt kind of sorry for anyone, no matter how great they were, that whoever shared the stage with her, would definitely be overshadowed by her presence! Everyone’s eyes are transfixed on her. ❤

Legand, beauty, and I think one of the greatest live performers of ALL TIME!!! Nobody even came close to matching her talent, charisma, genius and endurance. I will love her forever.... Many stars will be forgotten. Never, Judy. I've never seen a performer who gave more to an audience. She gave blood, and soul. ❤❤❤❤

WOW ! I love the way Judy builds and builds to the crescendo that NO ONE can touch. Truly, the greatest female singer of the 20th century. Judy doesn't just sing the song, she becomes the song !
